Your immune system should prevent a pathogenic bacteria or yeast from taking over, but it is possible. If it is progressively worsening, you should get seen by MD and a culture obtained of drainage. Salivary stones: When the duct is blocked under the tongue, the submandibular gland under the jaw will swell into the neck. This is quite a normal thing to occur. The stones can be easily taken out of the duct. Go see an ear nose and throat doctor. The stones near the center of the gland (hilum) are a little tougher to get.
