What can cause sudden loss of vision in the lower half of one eye?

Decreased blood flow

Eye
Your very precise description is consistent with interruption of blood flow in a branch of the retinal artery on one side. This needs attention, as a stroke risk would be present. Unlikely that this represents migraine. See an ophtalmologist ASAP.

Can optic nerve head drusen cause sudden unilateral loss of peripheral vision due to a spontaneous vascular event?

Disc Drusen

Peripheral_vision
I am not aware of any association between optic nerve drusen and sudden unilateral vision loss from a vascular event. A vascular event should be evaluated and treated the same as if the disc drusen were not there.

I got my first migraine when I was 16. It started with sudden loss of vision. Is this normal?

Yes

This is very typical of a migraine. The visual aura should only last 20 minutes or so and then is often followed by a headache. Any change in your typical pattern souls be evaluated.

What causes temporary loss of vision?

It depends.

Loss_of_vision
The word "temporary" could mean seconds or days. Brief loss of vision could be related to common problems like low blood pressure or migraines. Longer periods of vision loss are often due to more serious problems. In any case, an ophthalmologist and/or neurologist should be involved.
