Causes Of Urgent Bowel Movements
Urgency for a bowel movement constantly but when I go sit down to have a movement it doesn't always happen. Also have white mucus stuff in poop. Cause?
Need a rectal look: This could all be from constipation and stool in the rectum leading to a feeling of needing to go - but with the stool so hard it doesn't pass easily (and mucous is the body's natural lubricant in this situation). But you could also have rectal irritation (proctitis) and a direct look at the rectum (sigmoidoscopy) is the only way to separate the 2 possibilities. ...Read more
The gastrointestinal tract starts at the mouth, travel down the tunnel (esophagus), which connects to the stomach, which then empties into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum---the three parts of the small intestine (@25 feet). This empties into the colon or large intestine (about 5 feet), which then becomes the sigmoid colon, rectum and out the anus. So, every morsel eaten ...Read more

Often I need to have a bowel movement but the urgency to go either disappears by the time I reach the toilet or it feels like muscles won't relax.???
Possible IBS: To provide the best advice we would need to have you compile a bowel diary including dietary intake as well as consistency and estimated frequency of stools. How is your urination ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 9 yr old son has recently had a urgency to go to the bathroom for a bowel movement. He does not always have a movement when he goes as he states it just felt like he had to go. This just started never had a problem before could this be his nerves?
This could be nerves: But I would also advise looking into physical etiologies. It is also possible that if he tends to hold in his BM's, he may have a dilated rectal area, which would affect the normal urge to have a BM and the ability to go. Either way, I would recommend discussing this with his pediatrician and have him examined. ...Read more
Why would I have an urgency to have a bowel movement when I need to urinate? Sometimes I can barely make it to the bathroom.
? irritable bowel: It's nit clear as to whether you're having irritable bowel symptoms also causing the need to urinate or vice versa, but irritable bowel syndrome appears likely nevertheless. Discuss this with your physician who may prescribe medication for your symptoms after assessment and ordering of appropriate tests if he/she deems them advisable. Dietary advice may also be given. ...Read more

TTYD, Stool studies.: You should relay your symptoms to a doctor / gastroenterologist by visit or via HealthTap Prime. The urgency & stool consistency sounds like colitis (inflammation of the colon). Have you been on antibiotics recently (past 6 months)? Stool tests like checking for WBC (lactoferrin) & bacteria can help diagnose the condition, but there's not enough room here to discuss all the possibilities. Good luck ...Read more
