May be reflux: The bad taste in your mouth and the pain you describe could be a stomach problem with GERD ( reflux of stomach acid up towards mouth). Xyphoid process: There is a nub of a bone just below the sternum ( breastbone) called the xyphoid process that most people don't know they have. It sticks out a bit and you may only notice it when you are laying on your stomach. The knot under your left rib cage may be the end of your 11th rib. Upper left back pain at the quadrant. pain left rib cage & swollen, painful stomach near ribcage. No injury occur. Gastriritis? Wbc is 10.1.

Wbc not cons w: An elevated white count is not common with gastritis. Have they checked your pancreas? Your pain could be referred from the stomach, pancreas or intestines. The spleen sits at the upper left quadrant too... Hard to say without the full exam and labs to look at. ...Read more

See primary care doc: I am not sure which doctors you have seen, where, or under what circumstances, but you should establish the diagnosis with a doctor who you see regularly (a primary care doctor) NOT the ER doctor. If they refused the MRI, they did you a service if the CT scan is neg, the MRI probably will show nothing.
