Doctor insights on:
Causes Of Swelling In Upper Stomach
Lots to consider...: An ache +/- distension in the upper abdomen may originate from the stomach, duodenum, mid-colon, small bowel, liver, pancreas, bile ducts and gallbladder, spleen, abdominal muscles themselves, hernias, blood vessels that feed the organs. Sometimes the cause is inflammatory, ischemic, infectious, obstructive, or just muscle spasms. Checking with your doctor can identify what's the problem area.
Swelling is the enlargement of organs, skin, or other body parts. It is caused by a buildup of fluid in the tissues. The extra fluid can lead to a rapid increase in weight over a short period of time (days to weeks). Swelling can occur all over the body (generalized) or only in one part ...Read more
Find the cause: Many different things can cause stomach swelling true bloating due to a large amount of gas can best be avoided by avoiding the foods, activities that cause the gas accumulation. Many other things feel like bloating but may be due to inflammation or adhesions or gallstone problems etc. See your primary to figure out the cause of your symptoms http://digestive. Niddk. Nih. Gov/ddiseases/pubs/gas/.
Yes but is atypical: Costochondritis or inflammation of the cartilage around the rib cage and sternum may cause swelling. I would expect the site of inflammation to be painful and swollen (point tenderness and swelling). This diagnosis may also cause back and abdominal pain, also known as referred pain. However, true abdominal pain should also be observed for worsening as it can be from other causes.
Many causes: Like constipation, gas, liver or gall bladder disease, intentional disorders, fat, etc...
What could be the cause of swelling in the right side of face that has since spread to my whole face, my neck, my abdomen.
Need to speak withDr: Without knowing your medical history and how long you have had the symptoms, etc, it's difficult to give you any advice? You should see a physician or schedule a health tap consultation on line. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful
Direct Dx needed: Please see an md for a full physical, the internet is inappropriate for a complete answer. Best of luck!
Short list.: Painless mass in rlq? Could be a tumor of some sort. In females I would be concerned about ovarian and uterine issues. If it comes and goes it is not likely of consequence and may be due to air in your bowels.
No see doctor: And have it checked, diagnosed and treated
Maybe: Because of the rotation of the uterus to the right, you might perceive an assymetry or 'swelling' on one side or the other. Run this by your OB and make sure that they do not need to do an ultrasound of the uterus.
Too many to list: Abdominal pain can be caused by way too many things to advise you on what to do for your present condition. You need to see your doctor who will take a complete history and perform a physical exam before recommending any treatment plans.
Hernia and tumors: Many possible causes, but hernias and tumors are most likely.
Several things: Colon, small bowel can get full, gas, air. Fluid in abdomen. Local swelling of soft tissue or hernia are also possible in left abdomen. Rarely an enlarged kidney or mass can occur. FIND out by seeing your PCP with full history and good physical exam, and the testing as guided by these factors.
Several causes: There are several potential causes of abdominal swelling. Gas trapped in the bowel, from partial obstruction, bad gallbladder, gastric reflux are a few. If you are vomiting or running fever get checked right away. If you are okay, try a bowel regimen, low fat diet, small frequent meals and more hydration. If not better in a week or so, get checked by your doc.
See MD: We really can't diagnose over the internet. Sounds like he needs to see a pediatrician ASAP.
I have noticed swelling (like a firm ridge) extending across my lower abdomen just above the pelvic area. What can the likely cause be?
Not sure: It is probably nothing, but on occasion, it could represent a hernia.
Something or nothing: Bloating is a common symptom of ibs which is usually a self-limiting but annoying gastrointestinal syndrome. The bloating is usually from swallowed gas and/or bacterial imbalance in the gastrointestinal tract. If it is just the lower abdomen, and the patient is female, it may be due to gynecologic problem or even gyn malignancy. If it is with constipation, a laxative may help.
Cannot comment: Your symptoms are not specific enough to make a comment - is the swelling in the skin? Is it associated with shortness of breath? Any color changes? Weight? Difficulty swallowing? Normally swelling is gravity dependent, affecting more the legs and lower abdomen. If indeed this is upper abdomen, chest and back, then you should see your physician for more testing to look at the heart and lungs.See 1 more doctor answer
