Probably unrelated: The thecal sac is what surrounds the spinal cord and contains spinal fluid. Effacement just means that there is no fluid in the space around the spinal cord. Could be infection: It is difficult to tell exactly what you have due to limited info, but trauma, tendinitis, phlebitis (inflammation in vein) can cause such symptoms. Infection (cellulitis) is more of a concern here. If you recently had iv/blood draw, bug bite, scratched by cat/dog/rose thorn etc...And now have swollen hand, please consult doc for eval.
