Follow up appt: Bilateral swollen arms is a symptom that needs to be investigated. There can be be a blockage in either the venous system or lymph system causing these symptoms. Need to be checked: Painfull swelling is often caused by an infectious process. In your arm pit/ axilla it could be a benign (non cancerous) lesion like lymphnodes, cysts of the skin, fatty tumors and developing abscess from an infection. It also could be a cancerous lesion. Seems unlikely.: Intermittent swelling is not characteristic of DVT since a clot would cause continuous swelling. Also upper extremity DVT is not as common as lower extremity DVT and usually is associated with an inciting event such as trauma, tumor, an IV or thoracic outlet syndrome. It would be very unlikely for your symptoms to be due to dvt. See a vein specialist for an exam. ...Read more
