Artery (Definition)

Arteries are a type of blood vessels. We can divide blood vessels into 2 categories. Arteries are high pressure vessels which deliver (red) oxygen + blood out into the body. Veins on the other hand or low pressure vessels which return (dark) oxygent - blood from the body ...Read more

What can be done for a splenic artery aneurysm?

What can be done for a splenic artery aneurysm?

Many treatments: Common in women who have delivered children. Usually asymptotic and incidentally discovered. Most experts agree that an aneurysm under 2cm in size is of low risk to rupture. However, it is important to characterize the "aneurysm" correctly and be evaluated by a vascular expert. Coil embolization, surgical ligation with splenectomy, or monitoring may be reasonable. Cta imaging would best. ...Read more

9mm splenic artery aneurysm is something to worry about ?

9mm splenic artery aneurysm is something to worry about
?

Possibly: Most splenic artery aneurysms are not at any significant risk of rupture & bleeding until they reach around 20 mm so most vascular surgeons recommend following them annually until they reach that size, then repairing them at that time (most often with embolization or stenting rather than surgery). Occasionally an aneurysm will be symptomatic or grow fast & repair would be needed sooner than 20 mm. ...Read more

What does redemonstration of a patent splenic artery aneurysm maximum dimension on contrast enhanced images is 19mm mean?

What does redemonstration of a patent splenic artery aneurysm maximum dimension on contrast enhanced images is 19mm mean?

Little bulge: "Redemmonstration" means it's been seen before, hopefully a while back, because that means it's stable and not growing. The aneurysm is a bulge in the artery to your spleen. This can rupture, which is sometimes fatal. 19mm isn't very big, but it's big enough to do something about it. We now have endovascular repair methods, so you wouldn't need surgery. But I recommend you take care of it! ...Read more

How serious is a 9 mm partly calcified splenic artery aneurysm? I have been hurting for some time now and now I sick worrying. What should I do?

How serious is a 9 mm partly calcified splenic artery aneurysm? I have been hurting for some time now and now I sick worrying. What should I do?

How are you feeling?: Splenic artery aneurysms, although more common than other visceral aneurysms, are quite rare. This makes it very difficult to draw conclusions. Pregnancy has been associated with increased incidence of rupture of these anomalies. It sounds like you've had some kind of evaluation and, particularly if you are having symptoms, I would return to your doctor to address the source of your unease. GL! ...Read more

I have a splenic artery aneurysm and its 1.5 CM and it was 1cm in nov. and i been having pain in my left side to my back. its not calcified.what to do?

I have a splenic artery aneurysm and its 1.5 CM and it was 1cm in nov. and i been having pain in my left side to my back. its not calcified.what to do?

Get Repair NOW: I would recommend immediate repair. ALL females of reproductive age with splenic artery aneurysms need to have them repaired. And ALL patients with symptomatic or significantly enlarging splenic artery aneurysms also need them repaired. Enlargement of 0.5 cm since Nov is a significant growth for this aneurysm. And the left sided and back pain is very concerning. See vascular surgeon ASAP. ...Read more

Not likely: A 1cm splenic artery aneurysm should not cause any symptoms. Intervention is indicated for aneurysms 2cm or greater. Your symptoms may be from rib trauma, muscle strain, etc. If the testing was negative, a ct scan or bone scan may give some answers. ...Read more
