What are the causes of severe pain and pain in my shoulders and upper arms?

Causes of Pain: At your age, overexertion from something you did today should be relieved by some topical analgesic cream or oral analgesic but if it is recurrent or persistent, it could be your gallbladder or something in your cervical spine. Patients with impending heart attack can have some pain in those areas too but this depends on your health status and family history. Better see your family doctor soon. ...Read more

I missed first step of the stairs coming down backwards landed on my shoulder. It didn't hurt until two days passed.now severe pain in upper arm.broke?

Maybe (not) . . .: It's impossible for me to tell whether you/that person broke his/her arm or not. It's less likely if pain didn't start until 2d later but perhaps it took that long for adrenaline from fall to wear off, so to speak. Regardless, given onset of severe pain now, it's best for you/him/her to see GP ASAP. Go to nearest A&E if GP not available. I'd also worry about bleeding in brain (head injury) etc. ...Read more

Im suffering from severe pain in my upper arm. I’m unable most days to put my arm behind my back or even lift to to get dressed. What could it be?

Best to see MD: It seems like the muscle to perform those functions are inflamed or even torn as in rotator cuff tear or labral tear. On the other hand, capsulitis or diffuse tendonitis can do the same. It is best to be evaluated and if needed to have an MRI (only if necessary) for proper treatment. ...Read more

I had a short arm cast on for 10 wks for an upper arm break. Had it removed 2 wks ago. I now have severe pain & throbbing in my wrist? Why?

Stiff wrist?: I'm assuming you had a forearm ( most probable-- distal radius fx) ; though I'm unsure w/out looking @ the X-rays. " Upper arm"? is confusing . Most likely , however , you may be having wrist pain now because your wrist was immobilized for a considerable time. This can be normal as u regain motion and strength in your wrist joint. If it is not improving w/time see your orthopedic surgeon. Good Luck! ...Read more

I have extremely severe pain in my left shoulder and upper arm from bursitis. I've tried heat, cold, physical therapy and meloxicam with no success. ?

Get MRI: If you have 'bursitis' diagnosed by history and physical exam/ X-rays only and have had the treatment you discussed w/out improvement then a good quality MRI scan is indicated. If you've had an MRI scan which confirms above then see a qualified ORS for possible subacromial injection or arthroscopic decompression/rotator cuff repair. Best if Luck! ...Read more
