It does have idiosyncratic side effects on the cns, and can cause sg abnormalities, especially if your teen was using other meds or ingested alcohol. I presume the Nembutal was discontinued and something else rxd for sleep? If so, there should be no sequel. ...Read more

Nembutal: Yes. Nembutal contains a barbiturate and although these have been used for decades to treat seizure disorders, they can cause eeg changes and even evoke a seizure. It is best to switch to a non- barbiturate formulation, like dalmane (flurazepam). Yes: Those are all side effects of barbiturates. They can persist for a day or longer, depending on the medication. Is the medicine prescribed for the teen? Or is he taking someone else's medicine? Personally, i don't prescribe barbiturates to teens. ...Read more
