Causes Of Scaly Areola
Should a teenaged girl get a biopsy for a scaly, persistent rash on the areola on one side to confirm whether it is Paget's disease or not?
I am a 27 year old non breastfeeding female and my left areola has become scaly and dry. There is no itching. What should I do? Is this minor?
I have a thin dark scaly spot on my areola. I can scrape it off easily with my fingernail and by the next day, its back. It's not eczema or psoriasis.

Itchy, scaly flaky nipple, on only one nipple? More recently slight red patchy skin around areola aswell. What could it be?
Nipple rash: Nipples and areolae can get dry and irritated easily, especially in fall and winter. Runners can get irritated nipples also. Gentle skin care and moisturizing is very important. If switching to a non-soap cleansing bar and moisturizing with petrolatum doesn't help, you may need prescription treatment. Please see your dermatologist. There are other nipple/areola conditions that need to be ruled out. ...Read more
Dark scaly spot next to areola on right breast, tingly and itchy, also have noticed its slightly bigger over the past 3 months, could it be pagets?
Normal: There are two types of bumps. The areola has many small glands that produce lubricating secretions for the nipple. These glands get larger as we age, and become more obvious. Also there are erectile muscles beneath the skin of the areola that can can make the areola "bunch up" when it is cold or stimulated. ...Read more

I'm 31 and my right areola has a Lighter color ring around around it as if the areola is enlarging? What could cause this?
Areolae come in multiple colors and shapes. What you described likely falls in the natural variation. If there is a rash, eczema like skin or other symptoms, you should see a doctor as it is not feasible to be more specific without looking at the tissue. You may consult this site for variations in areloae.

Hello.: Hello. Areolas often become stretched out during pregnancy or breast feeding. Even without pregnancy, the areola is subject to changes over time. Things which can impact the areola include hormonal changes, birth control pills, aging, and some medications. However, if your skin is puckering inward or an underlying mass is palpated, that needs to be evaluated expeditiously. ...Read more

Engorgement: Breast tissue normally expands, and later becomes engorged. The stretching of the skin around the breast can often lend itself to pain around the areola. The areola is also hypersensitized during pregnancy and after delivery to help with breastfeeding and this can cause some irritation/pain as well. My wife used cocoa butter when she was pregnant and it helped her. Ob will have other treatments. ...Read more
Causes of more prominent white bumps on areola of breasts? Is it serious? Never used to be so prominent thanks.
I've just noticed that my left boob has a patch of numbness on the side of it near the areola. Cause and how to make it go away?
Breast numbness: Perhaps your brassiere seam or "riding up" underwire may be compressing this area of your areola from a ill fitting bra. If that is not the case, check yourself for hidden lumps in your breast or areola. A mammogram, if you haven't had one, can be helpful in ruling out any of the more serious causes for this problem as well as a MD exam. ...Read more
What would cause my 7 month olds bottom part of his right areola to turn green. It's under the skin and I can't feel any bump. It's been a week?
Go to ER now!!: Green is a very unusual color for any skin area to be, especially in a localized area. Listeria is a serious infection that can turn secretions green, but on the skin surface you need a skin expert to sort this out. It's possible this is a cutaneous fistula to the small intestine, but the location too superior to allow for this unless there is more serious abnl anatomy deeper, go to the ER now!! ...Read more
Recent abnormal mammo, amorphous microcalcs, 6 mnth FU. Benign conditions that cause areola shape change + edges to be less defined, like color bleed?
Tough question: Most important thing is to make sure you get proper follow up regarding those mirocalcifications. I think at some point you may end up having a stereotactic biopsy so that a pathologist can look at what's causing those microcalcs. Concerning areola shape/color fading, I would guess that wight gain, hormonal changes and pregnancy would be the things that could cause the diameter to increase. ...Read more

Yeast: Most common reason for those symptoms would be a yeast infection. You can try some over the counter anti-fungal and see if that helps. If it doesn't then it may be hormonal.
