Can caffeinated sugary drinks cause recurrent yeast infections? I'm always irritated! help!

Recurrent yeast: Sugar intake does not cause yeast infections. However, the most serious health problem that does predispose to yeast is diabetes. Talk to your doctor about being checked for diabetes, especially if you are at risk (overweight, family history of diabetes, etc). If not, then once weekly fluconazole (Diflucan) might be helpful. Good luck! ...Read more

Yeast infection: This can be predisposed to by diabetes (without there being glycosuria), antibiotics taken for other reasons, immune suppression, stress, lack of sleep, illnesses, etc. Itraconazole for one day may not be adequate therapy. Could taking birth control for two years straight without a period cause me to have recurrent yeast infections?

Could taking birth control for two years straight without a period cause me to have recurrent yeast infections?

Probably not: The reasons for recurrent yeast infections usually are unknown. Diabetes with poor blood glucose control is the most serious common predisposing condition. Other immune deficiencies can do it, but quite rare. Ongoing or repeat antibiotics. Tight clothing sometimes is blamed, but mostly an urban myth. Weekly fluconazole (Diflucan®) by mouth can prevent most outbreaks. Discuss w/ your doctor. ...Read more

Ive had recurrent BV, thus causing recurrent yeast infections from overuse of antibiotics. It's a
vicious cycle. I do everything I should. Thoughts?

Recurrent BV, yeast: Both BV and yeast can recur despite standard remedies, very frustrating for patients and often their doctors as well. Recurrent yeast often is preventable with oral fluconazole (Diflucan) weekly, or when other antibiotic needed. Vaginal metronidazole (Metrogel) may prevent BV. Vaginal boric acid capsules can help prevent both. Try to find gyn who subspecializes in infectious diseases. Good luck! ...Read more
