What would cause WBC and RBC in the urine when your urine culture comes back normal?

What would cause WBC and RBC in the urine when your urine culture comes back normal?

See below: Wbc are usually due to infection, but non-infectious causes of inflammation, such as interstitial cystitis, radiation injury and stones can lead to WBC in urine. Rbc in urine may be due to stones, tumors and lesions in the glomeruli in the kidney. See this site for information and discuss the issue with the doctor who ordered the tests.

Kidney stone: There are several causes of blood in the urine. The most common is a kidney stone so you should be checked for that. Other causes are from infection or bladder cancer. If it is persistent then a CT scan to look for stones is what I would do first (if there is no infection). Then next would consider sending you to urology for possible bladder cystoscopy. ...Read more

What is the cause of protein, RBC and WBC found in the urine?

Several things: The kidneys serve as a sieve and metabolic control system. If the kidneys are damaged, it is possible that proteins, casts, and blood cell components will be seen in the urine. Few issues: It is abnormal to have blood in thevurine. So this must be accounted for. Now if you are on a period or kidney stones this may account for the blood. But must know the cause. So hydrate well and go back to doctor for another sample to see if the blood is gone. If not you may have to do further testing ...Read more

Can 2-3/hpf pus cells and 0-1 /hpf RBC in urine cause fever? Have burning sensation after urination.

Can 2-3/hpf pus cells and 0-1 /hpf RBC in urine cause fever? Have burning sensation after urination.

Not likely, but:: The amount of pus cells (wbc) and rbc are normal for a voided urine. Almost all patients with a urinary tract infection will show many WBC in a spun sample. So your result suggests something other than a urinary tract infection is causing fever.
Nevertheless, I suggest that your Dr. repeat the U/A and do a urine culture in order to be certain that you don't have a kidney infection ...Read more

Is microscopic WBC of 33 and RBC 13 high for a little girl's urine? No u.T. I so what is cause? Urine ca/creatinine 0.727

Recheck: If culture was negative then there isn't any uti- but I would have repeat u/a and cx of the urine. If blood still present then she needs u/s of kidneys and possibly a cystoscopy. This can be from kidney stone or other more concerning infection. In rare cases you must concern yourself with tumors. ...Read more

Some ideas: A few red cells may have lysed in a dilute urine. This may be myoglobin or free hemoglobin from your exercising. There may have been contamination if it was your time of month. Or it may be a lab error. Your physician may decide to just watch it, or repeat the test. ...Read more

Urine dips always show 1+ or moderate blood in urine, but usually no RBC. What could be the cause? This is NOT during my menstrual cycle. Thanks

Microhematuria: If you exercise heavily, you will secrete myoglobin in your urine and as a UA can not distinguish between hemoglobin (from blood) and myoglobin (from muscle), UA will be positive for blood but no RBC seen. If your UA however reveals both blood and RBC then you need to seek a urologist's care for further evaluation and workup. ...Read more

If urine general contains 5-6 RBC what it indicates?

Abnormal urine: If a first-morning urine, before any exercise, always contains 5-6 RBCs, (even though that is not a lot) it is abnormal. If it also contains protein, that is suggestive of kidney disease. Hematuria without protein needs to be checked out. That means XRay (usually CT) of the kidney and a cystoscopy to make sure that there is no kidney or bladder disease. ...Read more

Please advise if it's dangerous that urine RBCs/HPF is 10-12 while the normal range should be 0-3?

Microhematuria: This is worth a follow-up. A few percent of human beings always have extra red cells in the urine without any clear cause, and it's actually normal in serious runners. Ask your physician whether your daily Aspirin might have something to do with it, and whether any follow-up is indicated -- a check for bladder or kidney tumors is the chief concern. ...Read more
