A : A certain percentage of the population develop exophytic (outgrowths) of dense normal bone know as tori or exostosis (depending upon their location). These are benign growths that are of concern only if it interferes with speech, eating, placement of a denture or you continually traumatize the area during function. Typically they are only removed if they cause a problem. The surgery is simple and recovery quick. If the area is not causing you a problem, i recommend that you have your dentist look at the site at your next regularly scheduled appointment. If needed your dentist can refer you to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for further evaluation and treatment as indicated. ...Read more

Should be examined: Pain is an indication something is wrong. You may wish to check with your md or dentist, but this is not normal and should be examined now. If you cannot open very wide (3 finger widths) then it might be your jaw function. If you are waking with headaches it might also involve your sleep and airway at night. Lots to examine, so get going as soon as you can. Probably won't fix itself. ...Read more

Follow up: Call the office where you had your wisdom teeth removed. It is likely a small piece of tooth or bone that was left behind and just needs to be smoothed or removed. This is very common with extractions and usually is an easy fix, but you will want the doctor to be the one to do it. ...Read more
