I took ishihara plate test on internet and it shows that I have red color blind (protanopia). What can cause it, and what can be done about it?

I took ishihara plate test on internet and it shows that I have red color blind (protanopia). What can cause it, and what can be done about it?

Genetics: Color vision is controlled by a gene on the x-chromosome. Females xx and males xy, making males more likely to be color blind. Of the different types, red/green is the most common, with red being a sub-type of this. You should see an ophthalmologist for an evaluation. If you are just now discovering this, it seems like you are pretty well adapted to your situation. ...Read more

Is there a lens to correct protanopia color defect?

Caution: The use of a red contact lens or purple tinted glasses will allow you to distinguish the letters and numbers on test plates that you get wrong with the naked eye. However they work by shifting the axis of color deficiency so you become color blind in a new way and they cut down the overall light intensity which decreases acuity and contrast sensitivity. These are not cures. ...Read more

Please let me know if there is a lens you can get to correct protanopia colour defect?

Please let me know if there is a lens you can get to correct protanopia colour defect?

No: There is a contact lens sold (x-chrom) which advertises that ability. What it actually does is shifts the axis of confusion to make you color blind in a different way - so that you can pass a standard color test like the ishihara. But it just trades one type of color deficiency for another and lowers the total light input as well. ...Read more

What is the difference between deuteranopia vs protanopia?

Dimmed bright colors: Protanopes lack long-wavelength-sensitive cones & are unable to distinguish between colors in the green–yellow–red part of the spectrum. Also the brightness of red, orange, & yellow is much reduced. Deuteranopes lack medium-wavelength cones; they have the same hue discrimination problems as the protanope, but without the abnormal dimming. Both have red-green colorblindness. ...Read more

What's deuteranopia and deuteranomaly, protanopia and protanomaly?

Color defects: These are terms for inherited color deficiencies: deutero refers to red-green confusion and protan refers to yellow-blue confusion. Opias have absolute confusion and anomalies have partial confusion. ...Read more

Please advise what is the difference between deuteranopia and deuteranomaly, protanopia and protanomaly?

Please advise what is the difference between deuteranopia and deuteranomaly, protanopia and protanomaly?

Complex: There are three colored light receptors. If one is substituted with the color of another that is termed "opia" and is the more extreme form. If the spectrum of one set is shifted but still picks up some of what it is supposed to receive that is "anomaly". These people can recognize more colors. "deutero" is red-green mix; "proto" is yellow blue mix. I call these deficiencies; not blindness. ...Read more

What might cause anger issues?

What might cause anger issues?

Two thoughts: The possibilities here are numerous, but at least two that come to mind are 1) childhood developmental factors, and 2) anger as covering over other feelings. For the first one, if children aren't taught to deal with anger early on, they'll have trouble with it later. For the second one, anger can sometimes be an internal defense against other, more troubling feelings that are harder to express. ...Read more

Reintroducing grains after paleo, and i feel sick. Is my body freaking out from "foreign objects" or did grain-free cause grain intolerance?

Reintroducing grains after paleo, and i feel sick. Is my body freaking out from "foreign objects" or did grain-free cause grain intolerance?

This is the norm: Grains are really hard on a person's gut but for most of us our gut gets used to it. However, when you stop eating grains for a time and then add them back you are asking your gut to adjust too quickly to eating grains. Your experience is the norm rather than the exception. Were you to keep eating grains things would eventually improve though they will never feel as good as not eating them. ...Read more
