I just switched from metformin to onglyza (saxagliptin) and now have persistent headaches. Is this a common side effect? If and when will it subside?

Not common, but: Can happen. No way to tell if it's due to the Onglyza (saxagliptin) (which would be very uncommon) except to stop it and see what happens. What is the best or most common TCA or SSRI for persistent headaches? Feels like i have a bad ache on right side of my head months. Mri/mrv all fine.

Amitriptyline: Hi Victor, TCAs are great choices for migraine prevention. SSRIs generally are not and in my experience as a headache specialist, can make them worse. Good luck. -Dr Safdieh ...Read more

Persistent headaches that last for a month everyday. CT scan 2 years ago, do i need to do again, im so scared of brain tumor..

Headache: prompting a work up with CT scan 2 years ago that has returned again after a period of time is not likely due to a brain tumor in anyone yet alone a 25 year old. I would however do a scan if you were planning to have a spinal tap done to check for raised intracranial pressure due to pseudotumor cerebri. (Not uncommon in a 25 year old female) Check your iron, Vitamin A level and see a neurologist ...Read more
