Most lumps, benign: Don't start worrying. The majority of small bumps on your head would be benign (not cancer). Lumps that can be tender are cysts, lymph nodes and less likely lipomas. Be calm: No reason to lose your cool or get terribly worried. Most of these types of things turn out to be nuisances and that's all. You will need a doctor to look at the lump and squeeze it a bit. MUST see M.D.!!: It could be a harmless skin lesion, like an epidermal inclusion cyst or lipoma (benign fatty tumor)... But it could also be a "sentinel node" which might be an early manifestation of lymphoma. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck from infection usually come up quickly and are tender. Often they can persist for a while after the infection resolves.
