The base of my neck where the sternocliedomastoid connects to clavicle area hurts to the touch. What could be the cause?

Another cause could be infection of the overlying skin and or muscle itself. This would be associated with redness and warmth in the area. Treat initially with ice, anti-inflammatories, rest. What can cause shoulder pain in front of the clavicle on the left side when sitting having back support? And no pain when standing or laying
I'll say that "in front of the clavicle" close to the breastbone is the sternoclavicular joint.

The medial sterno-clavicular joint can become swollen from injury or inflammation. Some people have an extra cervical rib above the clavicle which if large can cause some pain. The other end of the clavicle by the shoulder hurt, but is not rib related. ...Read more
What could cause a bone to constantly change? My clavicle keeps changing shape. Some parts, the bone is eaten away, and others, the bone grows.
Don't know: Definitely not a "normal" complaint and should be thoroughly evaluated. There are some inflammatory conditions that can cause a resorption of bone and other parts of the bone can grow in response to it. An osteolysis of the lateral clavicle is also not uncommonly seen in weight lifters. Don't hesitate to be sen and fully evaluated. ...Read more
