Any # of things: Differential would include painful/arthritic AC joint (joint at end of clavicle), rotator cuff tear or intractable tendinitis, labral tearing (cartilage surrounding socket which helps stabilize joint), altered mechanics or abnormal motion of the scapula (shoulder blade) on chest wall. Not sure?: Not sure what you mean by head of clavicle. The clavicle and 1st rib are right on top of each other near the breast bone or sternum. The medial sterno-clavicular joint can become swollen from injury or inflammation. Some people have an extra cervical rib above the clavicle which if large can cause some pain. The other end of the clavicle by the shoulder hurt, but is not rib related. ...Read more

Unclear: I'll say that "in front of the clavicle" close to the breastbone is the sternoclavicular joint. The pectoralis major muscle attaches to the "front" of the clavicle, but i've never seen a strain of that muscle hurt in that location. Other small ligaments and muscles attach to the clavicle, but i just can't imagine anything that causes pain only when sitting. ...Read more
