Causes Of Mixed Connective Tissue Disease
I am taking sulfasalizine for mixed connective tissue disease. I have developed thrush. Would this med. Be the cause?
Almost certainly: Your thrush is likely the tip of the iceberg-antibioitics like sulfsalizine kill our friendly flora but don't kill yeast, leading to overgrowth throughout the GI tract (known as intestinal candidiasis). This is treated with a low starch diet, probiotics & antifungal drugs or herbs. Half of my nail bed is turning blue on several fingers. SPO2 is 98-99. I have Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. Should I be concerned? Possible causes?
Is there a connective tissue disease that can cause widespread OA? I feel like something is being missed. I'm only 36. Is it just out of my control?
No: OA is by definition osteoarthritis, otherwise known as degenerative arthritis and is not "caused" by a connective tissue disorder. This is not to say that you have OA, but rather the search for other causes of arthritis is usually to investigate inflammatory causes such as, for example, RA, lupus, etc; which usually involves a thorough rheumatology evaluation. ...Read more
Can the systemic inflammation from undifferentiated connective tissue disease cause intermittent dizziness ?
Inflammatory disease: Sounds like you have been given the dx of fibromyalgia. Otherwise, you have a very vague problem which is questionable in its diagnosis. You are much more likely experiencing vertigo due to the serious medications you are on versus systemic inflammation. Both Plaquentil and Cymbalta (duloxetine) are well known for causing vertigo. I would suggest talking with your rheumatologist about alternate drug treatment. ...Read more

I have connective tissue disease. What kind of viral illness would cause this--have low white count and sometimes not enough neutrophils.
See below: Some viruses ranging such as the common cold have implicated in triggering autoimmune connective tissue diseases but you have to have a genetic prediposition for autoimmune disease for this to even occur. However; the autoimmune disease can itself can cause low white blood cell counts and neutrophils. ...Read more
Which connective tissue diseases cause a skin rash? Punch biopsy suggestive of early connective tissue disease.
Skin biopsy shows early connective tissue disease. What is connective tissue disease? Why would it cause a chest rash? Or flushing w/ stress, emotion?
Get 2nd pathologist: "Connective tissue disease" was an obsolete word for the lupus / scleroderma / dermatomyositis family decades ago. Unless this is a second-hand report of a biopsy that showed nonspecific inflammatory changes that anybody can have, I would ask that the case be reviewed by another pathologist if the rash might be a real problem. Lots of folks flush with stress ("stress urticaria"); it's normal. ...Read more
