What causes ongoing low lymphs, low mchc and high rdw?

What causes ongoing low lymphs, low mchc and high rdw?

Hematology: If the red cell, total white blood cell and platelet counts, as well as the MCV and MCH are all normal, the low MCHC and high RDW may not be significant or diagnostic. Low lymphocytes combined with high neutrophils can be seen in certain infections, use of corticosteroids, or in blood dyscrasias. However this question can be better answered by your MD (who knows your results) or a hematologist Read more

Which one of these can cause a low MCH and mchc in blood test, when deficient - iron OR b12?

Which one of these can cause a low MCH and mchc in blood test, when deficient - iron OR b12?

Homework?: Iron deficiency produces small cells with less hemoglobin (low MCH, MCHC). In B12 deficiency, there is no problem making hemoglobin, but making enough DNA is impossible, and the nuclear maturation cannot keep up with hemoglobinization, hence large cells. Read more

Anemia???: You haven't supplied all of the info. If he comes from around the Mediterranean ask him about thalassemia. Otherwise go see a doc or hematologist. Read more

What can cause a high IgM 392 mg/dl, low mpv 7.1 fl, high mchc 37.2 g/dl, and high rdw14.3?

What can cause a high IgM 392 mg/dl, low mpv 7.1 fl, high mchc 37.2 g/dl, and high rdw14.3?

Can't tell: Isolated labs are not how doctors make diagnoses. History is the most important part of a medical evaluation. Why were the labs performed? The mpv is a measure of average platelet size; it is only meaningful if platelets are decreased. Mildly elevated igm levels can indicate infection or immune dysregulation. The RDW and MCHC are red blood cell properties. Many healthy people have these results. Read more

My blood tests have come back with high (out of range) RBC and low MCH and MCHC. What could be the cause of this?

My blood tests have come back with high (out of range) RBC and low MCH and MCHC. What could be the cause of this?

Thal minor?: You did not give specific numbers but this is common is thalassemia minor, with red cells too small being produced in generous quantities to make up for their smallish size. It's worth knowing about because marrying someone else with it can produce children with thal major which is very bad. Read more

Low rbc, low hgb, low hct, low mchc. Other tests are normal, what's the problem? What causes the low results?

Low rbc, low hgb, low hct, low mchc. Other tests are normal, what's the problem? What causes the low results?

Anemia of low iron: The blood results you describe would go along with iron deficiency anemia and in a person of your age likely due to not enough iron intake to make back the red cells you lose during your period. You do not give the actual numbers or the reason you had the testing. Taking iron pills and eating deep green veggies would be what is needed. Ask your MD if iron deficiency is the cause. I have a high white blood count low mch and low mchc and high neutrophils{absolute} and high lymphs{absolute} what causes this?

I have a high white blood count low mch and low mchc and high neutrophils{absolute} and high lymphs{absolute} what causes this?

Lots of stuff: These white cell numbers alone can rest from something as simple as a cold shower. If you feel well and all white cells look normal, forget about them. If you have an anemia and/or possible blood loss, the low MCHC / MCH suggests iron deficiency. This happened to me when I was donating a lot of blood and eating mostly vegetarian style. Read more

Male 26, low RBC 4.39*10^12, total haemoglobin 13.2g/dl, MCV 88fl, MCH 30pg, mchc 34 g/dl, reti index 0.84%, ESR 2ml/hr cause of low rbc?

Borderline anemia: Your hemoglobin is also a wee bit low for a man (most men have 13.5 or more). The explanation might be something as simple as having drunk a few extra glasses of water before the blood draw so that you could also provide a urine sample. Your physician may want to check you now for occult blood loss, repeat the cbc, or begin an anemia workup now despite normal indices. Good luck. Read more

Mcv 69, MCH 22.6, mchc 32.7 (low), high RDW 16.1. Hg/hct normal. Rbc 6.45 (high). Numbers have declined over past 7 months. Iron norm. What is cause?

Need evaluation: All lab results need to be evaluated in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the test is usually in the best position to do that. It would also help to have the actual results of iron studies. Iron deficiency is a common cause of microcytic hypochromia. Mild thalassemia being another one. If your results are improving, recovery from iron deficiency is a likely explanation. Read more

Labs, hematocrit high 46.9, MCHC low at 31.9 and red blood cell high at 5.16. Had labs done myself. What could cause this. Anxious something's wrong!

Labs, hematocrit high 46.9, MCHC low at 31.9 and red blood cell high at 5.16. Had labs done myself. What could cause this. Anxious something's wrong!

Try HealthTap PRIME: Lab results usually are numbers, and numbers are just numbers, with little meaning unless a doctor takes in the whole picture of what's going on with his patient. "Creating patient anxiety" is one of the arguments against people doing their own lab tests. One can try HealthTap PRIME for a virtual consultation, in which a doctor can ask questions and look over the lab results, to explain them. Read more

What causes an a/g ratio of. 9 (normal range 1-2) with anemia? My hgb or blood count is 10.4. I have slightly low hct, mcv, mch, and mchc. Causes?

What causes an a/g ratio of. 9 (normal range 1-2) with anemia? My hgb or blood count is 10.4. I have slightly low hct, mcv, mch, and mchc. Causes?

Iron deficiency?: The a/g ratio indicates slightly low gamma globulin and is a very crude measure of immune function. The hgb/ red cell parameters are most suggestive of iron deficiency. Additions tests including a ferritin level are needed to confirm. Read more

Can low MCH and MCHC only caused by iron deficiency or can there be any other reasons behind it, e.g. vitamin deficiency?

Can low MCH and MCHC only caused by iron deficiency or can there be any other reasons behind it, e.g. vitamin deficiency?

Low MCHC: Aa30, MCHC being low is caused overwhelmingly by low iron and thus hemoglobin molecules per cell, however extremely rare hemoglobin mutations in predominately the alpha chain of hemoglobin protein which weakens the affinity for the Fe (iron) molecule to O2 can also cause low MCHC. We call these low affinity hemoglobinopathies and alpha chain thalassemias. Dr Hilliard Read more

Rdw going up 15.2 mvp 7.6 mchc low also? Could this be due to fatty liver? Could this cause easy bruising WBC was normal

None of these...: Have anything to do with the liver; they tell us nothing about the state of the liver, good or bad. Also, if the rest of the CBC is normal, the only things these indices suggest is a very mild iron deficiency. Read more

What does low mchc means?

What does low mchc means?

Low hemoglobin/RBC.: This simply means there is a low mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (mchc), or a low average amount of hemoglobin for each red blood cell. It is a measure of the concentration of hemoglobin in a given volume of packed red blood cells. Mchc is low in microcytic anemias, like iron deficiency anemia, and thalassemia. Read more

What should I do if I have low mchc?

What should I do if I have low mchc?

Find cause of anemia: Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) literally means the 'avg. Amount of red blood cell hemoglobin'. Hemoglobin is protein that carries oxygen in blood. Since low MCHC is associated with low iron &anemia, you need to rule out blood loss from excessive periods or 'slow gastro-intestinal (G.I.) bleeding'. G.I. Loss needs to be considered >40 yo. Supplemental iron, folate, (folic acid) B12 may help. Read more
