Causes Of Low Blood Pressure After Surgery
Low Blood Pressure: Low blood pressure (BP) may be normal for an individual who is thin, has a very low salt intake, inadequate fluid intake, developed an irregular heart rhythm or other heart problem. Athletes often have low heart rates and low BP due to their extreme fitness. Dysautonomia (dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system) can cause low BP - treated with support hose, postural maneuvers and medicines.
Hypotension is defined as "low blood pressure". Blood pressure is measured as two numbers and expressed as systolic blood pressure (sbp) / diastolic blood pressure (dbp). The sbp is the pressure that is generated when the heart squeezes. Dbp occurs when the heart relaxes. 120/70 is considered normal in adults. Less than 100/60 (of either number) can ...Read more
Many causes: Low blood pressure is generally desirable, but if there is lightheadedness with position change or other symptoms of low blood pressure, need to ensure no underlying problems- low thyroid, or low cortisol, or slow heart rate. Need to ensure good hydration status, consider liberalizing salt intake. Compression stockings can be quite helpful. Some medications may include midodrine or florinef (fludrocortisone).
Vagal nerve overstim: Most causes of hypotn and low heart rate come from overstimulation of the vagus nerve. This causes slow heart rates and vasodilation with drop in blood pressure. Pts feel sweaty nauseated and have bluured vision. If they don't lie down they may pass out.See 1 more doctor answer
Depends: Low blood pressure or bradycardia can be a simple sign of good health.
Varies: Several possibilities, but here are some: dehydration, esp in the summer when we can loose more water than we realize. Medications (lots-best to talk with your doctor). Infections, mainly serious ones. Heart problems. Endocrine problems. Kidney problems. More. For some people a lower BP is normal. Because the list is long and complex, i'd encourage you to have a eval & discussion w/ your doctor.See 1 more doctor answer
Dubious idea: This is a "pop" diagnosis especially in parts of europe, and some physicians believe in it; it's used to explain a variety of symptoms (including folks I suspect are somatizing / just unhappy); it's not mainstream, and if somebody's symptomatic, i'd look for some other cause. The healthy heart keeps pressure just adequate to perfuse the body; "low" shouldn't be a problem.
Low bp: If the BP recording is done wrong the result could be inaccurate.
Many things: This is a problem that requires a face-to-face meeting with your doctor. In that meeting, your doctor will listen to you, perform a throrough examination and possibly order labs or other tests. Based on this information, he/she will be able to tell you what's wrong and what to do about it.
Is it a problem?: A "normal" blood pressure varies from person to person. If you have no symptoms, then there's nothing to worry about. If you are symptomatic, then we need to ask why the pressure is low and address that. Many different conditions/situations can lower blood pressure.
None: Unless u r dehydrated this is usually normal for young females. If symptomatic see ur md
Hypoperfusion: Not enougth circulation can cause poor perfusion of the brain and this cause a temporary blackout. Staying flat is usually enough to reverse it.
Blood pressure: Low blood pressure could be associated with fatigue, it isn't always.
Possible: When blood pressure is low, sudden changes in position can cause lightheaded ness and dizziness. When changing positions take it slow. If you are on blood pressure medicine then you should see your doctor for medication adjustment. If not on meds, then you should still see you doctor for these issues.
What causes low blood pressure? Recently been having low BP for the past month. Never have had high no, always normal. On a beta blocker recently.
Beta blocker: Beta blockers lower blood pressure and pulse rate. See the doctor and let him know of your recent development of low bp.
I have always had very low blood pressure. The last month it has been normal to slightly elevated am I suddenly getting high bp and what could cause?
Unlikely: Blood pressure is very dynamic and changes second to second depending on activity and a host of other factors. Unlikely you are suddenly developing high blood pressure. If you are concerned, you can see your doctor for evaluation. They may ask you to do Home blood pressure monitoring which can provide helpful information. Hope this was helpful. Best of luck. Dr. R
Blood pressure is a measurement of the force placed on the blood vessels and is comprised of the "systolic" pressure (the top number on a blood pressure meter) which is the peak pressure when the heart is pumping, and the "diastolic" pressure (the bottom number on a blood pressure meter) which is the pressure during the resting phase ...Read more
Abnormal blood pressure is a symptom in which a person's blood pressure is much higher or much lower than it should be for his age and body size. If either the systolic (upper number) pressure or the diastolic (lower number) pressure is not in the normal range, then the ...Read more
