Other types of white blood cells make up a smaller % of the total when neutrophils are increased. So you could have a mild infection, inflammation, or you're a smoker. I hope that helps! ...Read more

Does chemical toxicity cause leukocytosis?

Does chemical toxicity cause leukocytosis?

No, usually not: Leukocytosis is an abnormally high number of white blood cells in the blood, as measured on a blood test. Both viral and bacterial infections can sometimes cause high numbers of white blood cells (wbc's) or low numbers of wbc's (leukopenia). Unusual leukocytosis, not caused by an infection, can be due to a bone marrow problem such as an early stage of leukemia. A doctor can further evaluate. ...Read more

Can stress, anxiety and allergies cause leukocytosis?

Can stress, anxiety and allergies cause leukocytosis?

Leukocytosis: Relative leukocytosis can be produced by any condition that causes increased levels of catecholamines like epinephrine, because this causes release of the WBCs from where they are adherent to the walls of the blood vessels. It is not a true increase, but change in disposition. Allergies do have the potential to actually produce an increase in WBCs, often eosinophils. ...Read more
