What causes swelling of neck vessels, rattling voice, inner ear discomfort and shortness of breath, which resolves with 20 mg of hydrocortisone daily?
See ENT: The resolution of symptoms from hydrocortisone (are you sure that it is not prednisone?) suggests that this is from an inflammatory condition- however the dose of hydrocortisone is unlikely to be that effective in controlling inflammation. Do note that chronic use of cortisone may lead to a lot of severe side effects . Have you consulted an ENT whose practice focuses on the ears alone? ...Read more

Sebaceous cysts: Many people have these cysts, which develop in the earlobes and behind the ears. They are oily, containing sebum, and sometimes can get infected. Fungal?: I wonder if you have a fungal infection of the skin inside your ear, called Otomycosis. The other option would be more like an eczema of the ear canal but this would not often be moist. Exam needed: Itching of ear canal combined with some discharge is consistent with otitis externa, treated with ear drops containing antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory ingredients(cortisone type) such as cortisporin otic.
