What causes ischemic colitis and how do u treat it?

What causes ischemic colitis and how do u treat it?

Low flow: This can result when the flow of blood and nutrients to the intestines is less than what is needed. This can occur when the intestines have higher than usual needs as with infections often associated with diarhea. This can also occur when the flow is low from an arterial blockage or from dehydration or low blood pressure. Initial treatment is bowel rest, if severe surgery may be needed. ...Read more

Can glass shards cause ischemic colitis?

Can glass shards cause ischemic colitis?

Possible: I am not sure why you are asking this question. However, I would not intentionally eat them. Glass shards could theoretically cause this condition by ulceration, perforation and transection but that is highly unlikely withtout causing signficantly greater damage prior to that. ...Read more

What could cause ischemic colitis and renal dysfunction?

See below: Hard to answer in this short forum. Ischemic colitis is from low blood flow to the colon. Ischemic colitis can cause bacteremia or sepsis resulting in stress on the kidneys, and also a possible dehydration component. Also if a person has low blood flow to the intestine, the same low blood flow process could also be affecting the kidneys (atherosclerosis) with resulting renal dysfunction. ...Read more

Is a colonoscopy the better way to confirm a diagnosis of ischemic colitis?

One of the ways: In ischemic colitis the findings of concern are related to loss of blood supply. Ischemic colitis: You are at a young age to see this condition. I gather from your report that it was diagnosed by both ct scan ; colonoscopy. Best to see your doctor or get a referral to a hematology specialist to see if you could have a blood clotting disorder. Ask your doctor if you should consider daily aspirin. Evaluate for heart rhythm abnormality. Do not smoke cigarettes. ...Read more

Surgical approaches are sometimes available... Check with PCP for proper referrals!

Ischemic colitis improved w/ Pepto & low fiber diet Returned to normal routine and symptoms returned Pain, rectal bleeding etc. What is happening?

Causes of colitis: Inflammation (infection, ischemic, ibd) of large intestine = colitis. Specifically, ischemic colitis occurs when there is decreased blood flow to the gut, due either to vasospasm (seldom recurrent) or stenosis/occlusion (frequently recurrent). Don't ignore the possibility of recurrence here--since transmural ischemia or mesenteric ischemia can be very serious. Get to the hospital now for recheck. ...Read more

Do doctors even recognize when loose conective tissue adds up in an area, such as the hip, that it causes ischemic pain?

Do doctors even recognize when loose conective tissue adds up in an area, such as the hip, that it causes ischemic pain?

Yes [and NO]: Good question...
But, hip is a joint! Loose conn. Tissue [prob. You meant fat] will accumulate outside the joint, not inside.
Any excess weight gain, invariably causes more load of wt. Bearing, thus causing more 'wear and tear'...
Ischemia is lack or insufficient blood flow; not necessarily would cause [but will contribute] to the development of ischemia...
So, best is to not gain but lose wt. ...Read more
