In my experience: this happens when you do something appropriate and are made to feel otherwise, like being assertive and speaking up for yourself and then being accused of being insolent, brash or disrespectful. There are bigger version of this, like survivor's guilt. Catholics are good at instilling guilt, like when using birth control. Atheists would say this is inappropriate. PFO with or without: PFO/ASA is a congenital abnormality. You were born with it/them. No need to feel guilty. Your docs were remiss in not doing telling you that.
