I've had a "hoarse" voice since April 2nd (when I was sick). I'm all better, but my voice is still hoarse... What might be the cause of that?
Hoarse Voice: Greetings. The most likely cause of your vocal changes is persistent swelling of your vocal cords. The cold is most commonly caused by a virus as is laryngitis. Give your voice a rest. Drink lots of liquids and avoid aggressive throat clearing. Ibuprofen is a good antiinflammatory that will help too. I assume you have no reflux and don't smoke. Rest assured your voice should recover just fine. ...Read more

Son voice gets hoarse on and off for about a year ENT not concerned cause it doesn't stay hoarse and did no test. Said from over use is this right?
Most likely: In kids the most likely reason why the voice is abnormal is "overuse" or "improper use". The voice is best when powered by abdominal breathing and relaxation in the neck. All too often kids tense their necks when they speak causing tension in the voice box and leading to hoarseness. A speech therapist could be helpful in determining if that is your sons cause. ...Read more
