It is likely that you have a condition called trochanteric bursitis of your hip--it is inflammation of the area surrounding the curve of the hip-thigh bone. Possibly resulted from excessive use/walking/running and/or laying on the side on a firm/hard surface too long. Hip arthritis and disc disease can cause hip pain as well. Motrin/aleve may help. One of the most common causes of hip pain. Is osteoarthritis. Oa is usually seen in middle and old age, I do not know your age.
Other causes include impingement syndromes, bursitis, muscle issues, snapping hip, trauma, transient osteoporosis, osteonecrosis or avn, and the list goes on.
