No definite rule: Chronic cervicitis usually has noninfectious cause such as mechanical (eg trauma from surgery or from objects such as tampon, diaphragm, pessary, iud) or chemical irritation (eg douches, latex 'from condoms', vaginal creams/gels). Removing the inciting agent is usually the treatment. If it is asymptomatic and is found on biopsy or pap no treatment is necessary. Freezing (Cryotherapy) may help. ...Read more
Smear test was ok, bacteriological one too, I sill have chronic cervicitis. What could be causing it?
Cevicitis: That depends upon the cause. Many cases are due to sexually transmitted infections. Non-infectious causes can include intrauterine devices, contraceptive diaphragms, and allergic reactions to spermicides or latex condoms. Many of the std ones are due to hpv. This needs full discussion after careful assessment by your gynecologist. ...Read more

What does a hypertrophied, hypervascular and friable cervix indicate? Can it be chronic cervicitis?
Diagnosed with squamous metaplasia w/ chronic cervicitis and positive hpv last yr. Do u think this would develop into cancer within a yr?
Hard to say: If you have these changes now you have likely had the HPV strain in your system for 5-10 yrs. That is when the clock starts on possible conversion. You are aware now that you have worrisome signs and have likely been scheduled for interval testing to see if this progresses. Keep your appointments and you should get the best possible outcome. ...Read more
Results show CIN 2 related to type 16 HPV (treated with leap). Results also show acute chronic cervicitis. Doctor did not bring up. Is this a result of cin/hpv, or likely separate? Monogynous for 4yr
Separate: "cervicitis" diagnosed only upon microscopic exam is usually a normal state. It was named long ago when it was thought to be abnormal. Nowadays, we know that most women have these changes. But for some silly reason, we have not changed the wording of the condition to signify that it is a type of normal. It is not related to hpv. ...Read more
My fiancé who had CIN 2 as a result of "high" risk hpv. She had biopsy and eventually the leap procedure. Results alsoindicated acute chronic cervicitis. Is the cervicitis due to the HPV or separate?
Acute and Chronic:
Most causes of cervicitis include sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomoniasis. Hpv also puts you at risk for cervicitis. There is an increased risk of chronic cervicitis with multiple sex patners or with a past history of stds.
Cervicitis may be due to injury or irritation from chemicals found in douches or allergies to spermicides or latex found in condoms. ...Read more

Recently in my cervical biopsy it said I had ordinary condyloma and chronic cervicitis. I got checked for all STDs and im okay. What should I do now?
Biopsy results from colopscopy= yes chronic cervicitis, no dysplasia. Due to positive high risk hpv. Will abstinence clear the chronic cervicitis?
No, unless HPV is: Treated & eradicated. Certain strains of hpv are closely linked with cervical cancer. As long as the hpv is present, cervicitis may continue, dysplasia may develop, & cervical cancer may result. See gyn for treatment options. Good luck. Partner (s) also need to be checked & treated for hpv. ...Read more

HPV?: Hi. Lymphocytes are the white blood cells that respond to viral infection. I'm not a gyn, but as far as I know, there's no autoimmune cervicitis, so it probably heralds a viral infection.
