Calf discomfort: One possibility is congestion in the calf veins which builds up during the day's activity on your feet. Elevating the leg should relieve that discomfort, however. Irritability of calf nerves or muscles may be a cause. A blood clot in a calf vein usually is accompanied by swelling and tenderness. It's best to have a physician examine your leg and, if deemed advisable, get an ultrasound of the veins ...Read more

FM 50, perimenopause, from last two days I get spells of coldness in my both calf muscles, no pain, numbness, tingling. So what to do? Thanks

Cold Calves: Lower extremity coldness can be due to many conditions, too numerous to discuss here. With hormonal fluctuations, as a woman approaches menopause, there may be a phenomenon of superficial vascular hyper-reactivity. Dilation is often described by many women as hot flashes, dizziness, sweating, etc. If vessels constrict, blood flow decreases, the skin will cool, hence the cold limbs. ...Read more

Partial tear: Usually this history means a partial tear of one the calf muscles. The medial head of the gastrocnemius is the most common. Tingling may just be from some swelling around the nerve. I expect that to resolve within a few days. Rest, ice a calf sleeve and wearing supportive shoes with heels should all help you. Don't stretch it. Ibuprofen optional. Healing usually in 2-6 weeks. ...Read more

What causes a burning sensation in the viens in my fore arms? Also the muscles in my calfs keep locking up.

Don't know: I have never heard of burning in forearm veins unless something has been injected into them. Assuming you are not doing that (and maybe especially if you are) then you should see a clinician to find the cause of this and the leg cramps. Probably need blood tests as well. Meanwhile, keep your arms above your heart level and try some heat on them as well as your leg muscles to see if it helps. ...Read more

Calf Calorics: Heat is one of many sensations, both normal and abnormal, that the body can perceive due to a stimulus that is real or unreal. Typically if there is nerve compression somewhere along the course of the nerve as it passes through tissues or at the level of the spine itself, this sensation can occur. If associated with weakness or pain it may be a spinal disc issue causing compression on a nerve. ...Read more
