To treat these you must first undergo a venous reflux ultrasound to make the diagnosis and determine the proper treatment. Medical management would be the use of support hose but this is only masking the problem. Laser closure of the leaking valves and micro incisions to remove the vv's is the ideal. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
What causes bulging veins in left wrist? When raising above head veins go normal when laying them down they bulge again
Bulging Veins: Bulging veins in the hands and wrists are often associated with aging, being thin and well hydrated. When the arms are down the blood in your veins have to work against gravity to return to the heart. When you raise your arms the blood flows with gravity to move more quickly toward the heart. Unlike the arteries which pulse blood, the movement of blood in the veins is more passive. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What causes bulging vein/ artery in neck with visible pulse? Is it a sign I'm too skinny? Or a different underlying condition?
Common finding: Many people are thin enough to have easily visible neck veins and arteries. when you are lying down, these vessels are more prominent and the veins often become difficult to see when you are upright. if your vessels are more prominent than normal (a doctor's physical exam is needed), it can be a sign of a more serious vascular condition, but if you are otherwise healthy, that is very unlikely ...Read more

If there is swelling of the arm, pain, redness, or the veins are firm, further evaluation should be done for clot or infection. They can be treated with sclerotherapy to improve appearance if desired. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Can contraction of SCM cause temporary bulging in external jugular vein? Bulge is painless, soft, <1 cm. No bulge when muscle is relaxed.
Not normally: No, not normally. Contracture of the SCM would not really affect the jugular vein unless you contract it to the extent that increases the pressure in the venous system which causes venous distension in general. You may have a sift tissue growth superficial to the SCM that then becomes more prominent as the muscle contracts. Don't hesitate to be seen for it. ...Read more
