Prolonged stress?: Stress can cause increased tension in muscles, leading to headaches and muscle soreness. It is not usually localized just to arms and hands, though. There has been a lot written about non-occupational risk factors for carpal tunnel syndrome. In one study out of boston about 11-12 years ago in fact it was determined that women who took birth control pills had an increased incidence of carpal tunnle compared to women who did not. The problem with a lot of studies is that while statistically it seems to implicate certain behaviors or co medical conditions or medications it doesn't help you as an individual trying to do what is right for yourself. Remember that a study like that offers guidance as a risk factor but may not imply a direct cause. There are a lot of coincidences too.
Tingling and numbness in the hand can be from carpal tunnel but aching, coldness can occur form that or other issues.
As far as stopping or starting birth control, talk with your doctor. Your neurologist should be able to clarify whether you have carpal tunnel or not and ifyou are not getting success with the treatment offered maybe you want to ask your neurologist about an emg/nerve conduction study or perhaps see a hand surgeon in your area.
If your curiuos you can look at the one of the styudies I am talking about, but none of these dtudies offer a direct cause and effect ie you can't say bcp lead to cts just that its been identified as a factor in this one study in this one population (the people studied). ...Read more
Low back pain with right thigh numbness and right arm/hand/wrist pain/numbness. Sneezing causes extreme aching pain in both arms. Thoughts on causes?
Spine specialist W/U: It coulb be from disc disease in your neck or high in the back creating some nerve root irritation from the sudden negative intrathoracic pressure created by the sneeze. When not sneezing the disc may look normal, which makes it very difficult to diagnose. The same phenomenon can result from a build up of bone (osteophytes) near the central canal or the foramen where the nerves travel. ...Read more

Nerve: A frequent cause is radiation of discomfort down the arm from nerve impingement from a disc in the neck or arthritic spur from a vertebra in the neck. Pinched Nerve: While there are many causes of arm pain and numbness one of the most common causes is cervical radiculopathy. This occurs when one of the nerves leaving the neck gets compressed as it leaves the spine and travels down the arm. Compression may occur due to degenerative/bulging discs or arthritic bone spurs contacting the nerve. See your physician if these symptoms last longer than 2 weeks. ...Read more
What is causing my muscles in my right arm to be sore when I stretch out my arm and also cause a pins and needles sensation in my hand?
My hubby (33) woke up with a sore upper left arm, and numbness in his pointer and middle finger (of left hand). What might the cause be?
Nerve issue: Pain and numbness in a limb sounds like a pinched nerve. It can be pinched in the neck or wrist as well as possibly other places in the arm.
