I have balanitis (unknown cause) possible epididymitis and prostatitis. Can the cause of all these things be related to each other?
Unlikely: Testicular atrophy is usually caused by chronic long term infection, poor blood flow, history of hernia repair, undescended testicle, hormone imbalance, varicocele, or history of testis trauma. Epididymitis in a young man can be caused by a sexual disease most commonly or a urine infection. A low sperm count can be treated with medication or surgery. A urologist can recommend a treatment plan. ...Read more
Is it possible that an isolated infection causing chronic epididymitis, like chlamydia and gonorrhoea, will not show up in a urine test?
Can a past history of epididymitis cause erectal dysfunction? The cause of the epididymitis was straining to lift a heavy object 40 years ago.
No relation: Epididymitis will not cause erectile dysfunction, certainly not 40 years later. You're at an age when ED becomes quite common, usually with no particular cause known. (It doesn't matter now, but 40 years ago it was thought physical strain could cause epididymitis. We now know that doesn't happen. It is much more likely you had an infection, e.g. chlamydia.) ...Read more
If the cause of my epididymitis is not infection, will ciprofloxacin help at all? Prescribed 500 mg×2 for 20 days.
See details: The cause of epididymitis is usually a bacterial infection and the responsible bacteria are usually identified in about 80% of cases. Two main groups of organisms cause most cases of epididymitis: sexually transmitted organisms and coliforms. Antibiotics are often required for this infection. Viruses and some medications can be the causes and no antibiotics would be needed then. ...Read more
Hernia: Generally speaking, no. The usual predisposing factors for epididymitis are frequent urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted diseases, urinary flow problems from prostatic hypertrophy. In addition, recent surgery, especially in the urogenital region can cause it as well, so theoretically, a recent varicoselectomy could cause it. Best to see a urologist. ...Read more
Can the fungal organism responsible for balanitis further cause epididymitis and/or prostatitis especially if its affecting urethra?
Can masturbation cause epididymitis? If not, then how can masturbation cause testicular pain? I have chronic pain from time to time. Only right side.
Not epididymitis: Masturbation cannot cause epididymitis. Frequent ejaculations can cause pelvic pain or discomfort that can be perceived in the testicles ("blue balls"), but that's not likely to involve only one testicle. Try laying off masturbation several days and see if it makes a difference. If not or still concerned, see your doctor. ...Read more
2 mos of rightside pelvic pain w/testi. Retraction. Dr couldn't find cause but maybe epididymitis so took cipro (ciprofloxacin) 14day. Still there : (What is going on??
I taken one time cipro (ciprofloxacin) dose for chlamydia which has caused epididymitis. When will it go back to normal? Could it be something else?
MisinformtIon?: This doesn't compute. Ciprofloxacin does not treat chlamydia. Maybe you misunderstood what antibiotic was prescribed -- maybe azithromycin? But a single dose is not usually adequate for epididymitis. If under a doctor's care, check back with him or her; or maybe second option from an infectious diseases or STD specialist. If you're treating yourself, find a doctor ASAP for proper care. Good luck. ...Read more

It is important to get your urine tested to make sure that you do not have a urinary tract infection that is not contributing to the inflammation. An ultrasound may also be done to ensure that there is no mass present. ...Read more
Is Post void residual urine 55ml normal for 28 yrs old male. Can it result in recurrent uti? Can epididymitis cause this condition?
Here are some...: A residual urine at 55 ml is slightly higher than its normal for one at 28, but the questions on if PVR is detected by catheter or ultrasound, if done right after "normal" voiding without waiting too long with an overdistended bladder, & if technically done correctly. Even done as suggested, one should correlate the value with clinical profile and voiding pattern so to decide its validity for you. ...Read more
