The work-up for: Chronic diarrhea can be complex. Key factors are is it watery, bloody, fatty appearing. The colonoscopy is most important if it is bloody to evaluate for inflammatory bowel disease, cancer and hemorrhoids! If watery, need blood tests/stool cultures to exclude infection and gluten sensitivity. Further helpful tests include fecal leukocytes, electrolytes and fat measurement. See GI Doc: And get your stools tested to see if there's inflammation. Its not clear why you had a colonoscopy 3 years ago - perhaps you were having similar issues then. If so, were biopsies done and normal? You may need to focus on your diet and see if you have lactose or gluten intolerance.
