What is the cause of the hyperpigmentation in people with cushing syndrome and addison's disease?

What is the cause of the hyperpigmentation in people with cushing syndrome and addison's disease?

Pituitary hormone: These people have increased secretion of crh (corticotropin releasing hormone & acth (adrenocorticotropic hormone, also called corticotropin) from the pituitary gland. The cells that secrete acth also secrete melanocyt stimulating hormone (msh). Msh stimulates skin and mucus cells to secrete melanin (dark bronze pigment) which leads to the hyperpigmentation. Is there any efficient treatment for stevens-johnson syndrome hyperpigmentation? It's been a year since my daughter had sjs, but now she has hyperpigmentation all over her body. Is there any specific type of cream or laser treatment that would help?

Skin peeling: Steven johnson syndrome may cause skin peeling mimicking a 3rd degree burn. As the result , hyperpigmentation may follow . There are bleaching cream for this condition but it would not be safe or practical to apply over the entire body. I suspect that this condition would fade with time but consult a dermatologist if it does not improve in a few months. This is truly a frightening reaction. ...Read more

Could gallbladder problems cause brown hyperpigmentation - even rarely?

Very unlikely.: Doubtful from gall bladder disease alone. In the case of obstruction due to gallstones with the development of jaundice, which can cause itching, chronic scratching could possibly cause hyperpigmentation. Other than that, by itself, it is unlikely to do so. However, other diseases can cause it so get a thorough checkup. ...Read more

What is the cause of hyperpigmentation. Is it related to high levels of acth?

Multiple reasons: Hyperpigmentation may be caused by sun damage, inflammation, or other skin injuries, including those related to acne vulgaris. In cushing's disease, there is excessive adrenocorticotropic hormone (acth) production, which leads to hyperpigmentation because msh (melanocyte stimulating hormone) production is a byproduct of acth synthesis from proopiomelanocortin (pomc). ...Read more
