Cat Bites Infection Symptoms
How long would it take infection from a cat bite to develop. My 4yo was bitten 2 days ago and it looks ok. Just a little pain if I ask and light pink.
Cat bite: It is highly likely that cat bites can get infected so easily. You need to see his doctor to see if antibiotics is needed
Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more
Is it ever okay to stop taking antibiotics early? (they were prescribed to me for a cat bite, no infection ever took root, now I have a yeast infectio
Talk to doctor 1st: Sometimes it's okay to stop antibiotics early, but talk to your doctor 1st. With bites, we worry about bacteria being pushed into the skin and causing a deeper infection, that's why we routinely give abx even before we see an infection - it's more to prevent infection. I usually recommend my patients start something like monistat for the yeast inf, but discuss w/ me about the abx before stopping.

My cat has got fleas, they bite me 50 time, and I obverse 2 fleas on my leg... an I detect infections or diseases? What should I do? Thanks a lot
Collar the cat: The fleas put you at risk of various diseases. Commonly, you can develop a localized skin infection where you have been bitten. Also an allergic dermatitis because of the repeated bites can develop into a full blown allergy to the point of generalized allergy symptoms. Not common, but you risk potentially serious diseases, ricktessia and Bordetella. Tx cat/sanitize house, personal belongings.
I was recently bitten by my cat about 13 days ago and I didn't think mucj of it, it wasn't a bad bite and it healed up in just a couple of days. No pain or no sign of infection but yesterday I visited my primary dr. On a routine visit and in conversation
What's the question?: The story was just getting good...And then it ended!
Hi, a little cat just bite my finger, is there any risk of infections? Any precautions I should take? Thank you,,
Cat bites -high risk: If the bite broke the skin, it is a high risk of causing infection. Up to eighty percent of cat bites become infected. One organism, Pastuerella multocida, is known for causing infection within 24 hours. I usually perform a wash-out/irrigation of the cat bite and provide a short course of antibiotics (e.g. Augmentin), especially with puncture wounds, as well as updating tetanus.
My 2 year old got minor bit from wild cat. What are the chances of infection and rabies? I washed bit and animal control watching cat for 10 days.
Continue to monitor: Although rabies is relatively rare- it still occurs in the animal population in the us. In sonoma county ca where I live, we had rabies in a cat recently. It is prudent that animal control is watching the cat (also likely testing the cat). Continue to watch the bit. If you see increased redness, streaks or pus, have your child seen by the doctor.See 1 more doctor answer
A/W Dr. Ferguson.: Get this evaluated asap. Have you had a tetanus shot in the last 10 years? Pasteurella multocida is a gram-negative, coccobacillus that causes the majority of wound infections from cat ; dog bites. It can quickly become very serious - especially when on the hand.See 1 more doctor answer

I was bitten and scratched by a cat about an hour ago on my hand. Is some swelling normal or indicate infection? I poured peroxide on the wounds and then applied lots of bacitracin. I am concerned that these punctures and scratches are a little swollen, a
Bacitracin: Bacitracin is not enough to prevent infection. Some swelling is normal, after a bite b u t....... Cats carry a bacteria in their saliva. Your skin also carries bacteria on it despite your hands being clean their is a natural bacterial flora on normal skin. A cat bite is generally a sharp deep puncture that may carry either type of bacteria and since it is deep it is hard to wash out. The typical antibiotic used for infection after a cat bite is Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) in a non penicillin allergic person. If someone is allergic to penicillins, then the chose is different. Specifically, pasteurella multocida is the most common bacteria from cat bites that is present in a cats mouth that causes infection in humans but staph species on the human skin also can also cause infection. Finally the swelling from the trauma of the bite, may fool all, but its best to be safe and rapid swelling that continues and begins to get red might need not only antibiotics but drainage by a surgeon.See 1 more doctor answer
