Doctor insights on:
Hey dr, im costantly losing weight and i don't know why or how. I'm wondering what can I do to at least have an appetite or get a lil weight back on me.
Weight loss.: Most of the time, all it takes to gain weight is to eat more calories than you burn off. If that is not occurring, it is important to find out why you're losing weight or unable to gain weight. You should see your doctor for a baseline evaluation to determine the answer to this question. My 11 year old son has costant nose bleeds, what can be causing them? He has them at least 4 times a week it seems and he just had one when he went to wash his hands after he came home from school. I asked him what happened because he came out of the bath
Hello. : Hello. I don't know the cause of your son's nose bleeds. It is pretty normal for children to pick their nose. This can cause minor trauma with subsequent nose bleeds. Sometimes there is small blood vessel in the nose that is exposed and friable, the pressure from blowing the nose could cause it to bleed. Children can also place objects in their nares (my brother had a thing for placing minature army soldiers up his nose when he was little). Dry air (like the type on airplane flights) can dry out the mucosa in the nose which makes it more friable. Allergies and upper respiratory infections can be a cause. If the child has problems with clotting blood or a blood disorder (leukemia) that can be an issue. Use of certain medications can also be a cause. Because you son has nose bleeds so often, I do recommend that it be evaluated as often the fix can be quite simple. Take care. ...Read more
