If your sprain was bad enough to be in a cast and not in a boot I would leave it on for 2-3 weeks. Removal of the cast will allow range of motion but it would still need to be protected either w/ crutches a boot or ankle brace.
If we can allow range of motion and protect from additional injury we can heal the ankle up faster. Re injury early on is a real possibility and needs to be protected. ...Read more

I am in an air cast for an ankle sprain. All its doing is causing swelling and pain. Could I juat wear and ankle brace instead?
Possibly: If it is just an ankle sprain, and definitely not a fracture immobilization is not required definitively. The main purpose would be to provide support and aid in your function. So if the air cast is not helping, you could certainly try it without anything or go to a soft brace. Check with your doctor first as I don't know the specifics of the injury, but you don't have to immobilize a sprain. ...Read more

I sprained my ankle and was told to wear an air cast for the next week. It doesn't fit with my sneaker should I just not wear it at work?

Remember to take breaks and elevate and ice your ankle throughout the day. ...Read more
