Can I work sitting at a desk with a broken foot in a cast? It swells up when lower than my heart. Is this dangerous? How can I prevent clot while work

It is possible: If swelling is severe, it could cut off the circulation. If you get any discoloration of the toes or experience excessive pain or a feeling of numbness, have it evaluated right asap. To decrease your chances of developing a blood clot you may benefit by being on blood thinning medication or you may try to flex your calf muscles every once in a while and try to move your toes. I have a partially torn achillies surgary or just a cast no surgary? Injury is a week old im looking for pros cons of both I've never been in surgary and im very fearfull

It: It depends on 1) how badly torn it is, and 2) your age, and 3) your level of activity.

If you're in your 90's and sit around watching soaps all day and it's a small tear, a cast will be fine. But if you're 17 and have hopes to get into the olympics, and the tear is significant, surgery is the way to go.

I realize I've given you extremes here, and I know you're somewhere in the middle. I think this is the perfect reason to get a second opinion. In general, the younger and more active and worse tears require surgery more than small tears in old folks who aren't that active.

Hope this helps. ...Read more

The problem is not your current circulation, which is fine, but if you apply certain dressing/cast, splint on your finger tip, especially if not done properly, it will act as a tourniquet, cutting off circulation, and resulting in you losing the tip of your thumb, as it dies... ...Read more
