Cartilaginous Joint Movement
See below: In a small percentage of patients with back pain, excessive movement between the vertebrae can cause pain. This is called instability and can be diagnosed with xrays that look at movement between the flexed and extended position of the spine. If movement is excessive, sometimes surgery is needed to stabilize the unstable segment(s). ...Read more
Can pirifomis syndrome cause a stabbing knife like pain in the si joint area when turning in movement? Thankyou.
Piriformis syndrome: My experience with piriformis syndrome has involved pain in the affected side groin and hip area. There is pain on LOWERING the affected side leg after raising the same leg. It involves spasm of the piriformis muscle of the pelvis and will respond to appropriate rest and medications (muscle relaxation, antiinflamatory medication) ...Read more

Not caused by injury. For the past week, I have been unable to fully bend or extend elbow. Pain is on the inside, top of the joint during movement.
Locked elbow: Very important to make sure you do not have a spontaneous infection. If you have any fever redness or lots of pain with motion go to ER or your family doctor and get this checked out ASAP. If not infected could be a loose body or other soft tissue structure getting stuck in the elbow joint. Go to an orthopedic surgeon and get 3Vs xrays of the elbow done. If Xrays negative then get MRI. ...Read more

Ive had dull leg pain for years. Its NOT in the joints, temporarily feels better with heat and movement &has been "migrating" recently. What is it? :/
Not sure: Very generic description. Where exactly is the leg pain? In the feet or further up? If it's in the feet and soles then a peripheral neuropathy can be considered especially if there is a history of diabetes, or other risk factors such a chemo treatment. Neuropathy tend to involve both legs so if the symptoms are unilateral then something else like a radiculopathy should be considered. ...Read more

I'm 22; 4'10" and have had joint aches for 15 years. Happens usually when cold and impairs joint movement. Should i continue pain meds or see a doc?
Joint pain: By all means, see a doctor. There are many medical illnesses that can cause your symptoms. Correct diagnosis is very important. Anti inflammatory pain meds can cause abdominal and kidney issues when taken too often and tylenol (acetaminophen) can cause liver issues. Narcotic pain meds are highly addictive and not recommend for long term use except in rare cases. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I'm 21. All my joints started to pop recently from everything between & including feet to sternum & shoulders from normal movement. Why/how do I fix?
Loose Joints: People with hypermobile joints might have joint hypermobility syndrome (jhs) with inherited laxity of ligament tissue. Ability to lock knees & put palms on floor can be sign of jhs. Osteopath should be able to diagnose. Mostly in females & can predispose to fibromyalgia. Solution is lean body mass & toned muscles. Yoga, swimming, & gentle weight training can stabilize joints & reduce laxity. ...Read more
