I am not clear as to what you mean by "spasm". If you are having muscular pain or spasms in your neck, this is not related to your carotid artery and is not an emergency. See your family doctor if that is the case.

The Sternoclidomasoid" Muscle goes into spasm. I believe this what is happening to you. It is a benign condition. Nothing to worry about, although it is painful and cannot turn neck in all direction.
