I have my first appointment with a cardiologist bc of a fast heart rate, would he proscribe anxiety meds if that's what causing my fast heart rate?

Not likely: The cardiologist will most likely rule out cardiac causes for your symptoms. If anxiety is determined to be involved in your symptoms, a trial of anti anxiety meds may be used, most likely by your primary care doc or a consulting psychiatrist.

My cardiologist looked at my chart and saw that I have an anxiety disorder. They prescribed me anti-anxiety med?

My cardiologist looked at my chart and saw that I have an anxiety disorder. They prescribed me anti-anxiety med?

Assume: That cardiologist evaluated for cardiac issues. If anxiety is believed to contribute to or to cause your symptoms -then this sounds like an appropriate medication choice. Take care.

What do you suggest if my cardiologist looked at my chart and saw that I have an anxiety disorder and prescribed me anti anxiety med?

What do you suggest if my cardiologist looked at my chart and saw that I have an anxiety disorder and prescribed me anti anxiety med?

Ask them why?: Did they prescribe the medication because of symptoms you reported? Were they concerned that some of your symptoms were related to anxiety? No harm in asking them what their reasoning for doing so would be.

Continue Plavix (clopidogrel): Plavix (clopidogrel) needs to be taken for destents for at least a year if not longer and it is not for anxiety u can take something else for that.

Why would a cardiologist prescribe clonazepam?

Why would a cardiologist prescribe clonazepam?

Clonazepam: A cardiologist is a fully licensed physician, also trained in internal medicine. There are multiple conditions for which this medication can be prescribed. One would need to ask either the patient or the physician presuming one had a reason or permission to know.

When docs differ: The situation you describe is common -- different specialists seem to be giving different advice. Make sure your doctors each know you're seeing the other so they can communicate, and ask them both your question. These little text boxes are not big enough to resolve the question here; consider an Inbox consult here on HealthTap where you can share details of your history and get another opinion.

Hi, will a cardiologist prescribe xanax or Ativan for SVT? I've been very anxious since my heart went into svt, I'm not sure what's causing this?

Hi, will a cardiologist prescribe xanax or Ativan for SVT? I've been very anxious since my heart went into svt, I'm not sure what's causing this?

Not necessarily.: SVT is very common (it is the most common arrhythmia), & could have many different causes. If you didn't have an anxiety disorder before the diagnosis, chances are that anxiety isn't causing this problem. Thyroid issues, heart issues, infections, malignancies can cause this problem. Ativan/Xanax are NOT treatments for SVT - they can make the problem worse. Propranolol may help. Use HealthTap Prime

My cardiologist thinks my atrial flutter is due to a severe anxiety disorder. If the anxiety gets controlled can the atrial flutter go away?

My cardiologist thinks my atrial flutter is due to a severe anxiety disorder. If the anxiety gets controlled can the atrial flutter go away?

No: Atrial flutter is due to an abnormal electrical pathway. It may be triggered by anxiety if the anxiety make you have extra early beats (palpitations) which may trigger the rhythm problem. Otherwise, atrial flutter may resolve on its own (but may return), may be controlled by medications, or may need a procedure called an ablation to cure.

Norm stress test & echo eval by cardiologist. I was having anxiety attacks for weeks. Stopped now. Is that early sign of incoming MI? Age28M. No Fam hist.

Norm stress test & echo eval by cardiologist. I was having anxiety attacks for weeks. Stopped now. Is that early sign of incoming MI? Age28M. No Fam hist.

No: It sounds like your anxiety attacks have just stopped. This is probably not connected to your heart. At your age and with a normal stress test on your heart and evaluation by cardiologist heart attack is very unlikely.

Stress: If a cardiologist has found no evidence of cardiovascular problems and your symptoms are related to anxiety and stress, avoid alcohol and caffeine and consult your personal physician for stress management therapy and, if needed, mild antianxiety medication adjustment.

Lastnite heart palp. Woke me from my sleep. It flutterd then resumed w.A hard beat that initially woke me up. Drs. Keep sayin it anxiety even cardiologist?

Palpitations: You may be experiencing extra heart beats which are benign. Your reaction to them is likely anxiety. If the holter is benign, you should try and relax and discuss the details with your doctors.

I'm wearing a 24hr. Holter monitor. Cardiologist says my palpitations are anxiety related. If they don't show up on it this time should I ask 4stress test?

I'm wearing a 24hr. Holter monitor. Cardiologist says my palpitations are anxiety related. If they don't show up on it this time should I ask 4stress test?

Anxiety: Be very clear with your cardioligist and ask all the questions you have, if it will ease your mind you can ask for a stress test, however if your anxiety is psychological in nature you really do need to address the way you perceive as anxiety is often driven by misperceptions. Best.

Cardiologist told me I have a mild mitral valve leak and said its nothing to worry about. Should I be worried? Anxiety @ all time high!

Cardiologist told me I have a mild mitral valve leak and said its nothing to worry about. Should I be worried? Anxiety @ all time high!

Mitral leak: Mild mitral insufficiency on echo is very common and most often of little signficance. If your cardiologist told you to not worry about it, then don't. It is no big deal at all and most usually doesn't ever cause a problem. Cardio would have told you if it was signficant.

My heart PVCs have started to get worse as I'm walking. But the cardiologist still can't find anything wrong with my heart. Still anxiety?

On and on, until: Chronic Anxiety has a lot of staying power. It hangs on, even discovers new ways to bother you until you learn ways to avoid, reduce and manage it. Acute anxiety is functional - it's our species response to immediate threat. Chronic may be meaningless - it's just there. CBT therapy is very effective if you find a therapist you trust and work at learning. It's a good value for better living! Best!
