How many fat grams, saturated fat grams, polyunsaturated fat grams and monounsaturated grams should the average american eat a day?
Fat is good for you: if it is good fat such as olive oil and coconut oil. Avoid transfats found in packaged foods and pastries. If you don't eat good fat you will feel hungry a lot, w/or w/out a special diet. Please do what your doc says but being a fathead is good. Are there benefits from monounsaturated fat? I'm eating macadamia nuts, and it has 20g mono & 3.5g saturated fat (24g total fat) per serving.
Good fat...: Yes...It is a better type of fat...We need fat in our diet, but unfortunately much of what we get is saturated fat--meaning from animal products. Often from nuts/plants, we get monosurated fat, a good thing. This fat is not as dangerous--not causing much damage to your blood vessels etc...So, monosaturated fat is a better fat to get. Good luck..Stay healthy. ...Read more

Plant fats more double bonds & liquid than animal, more solid, but this does not mean healthier: ancel keys fraudulent. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Protein: Low carbohydrate diets tend to emphasize higher amounts of protein to get into 'ketosis' (not the same as keto-acidosis). This is a 'fat-burning' state. Low carb diets must be low-calorie as well, however, to work. Low calorie-diets alone simply lower overall calorie intake but those calories could be in the form of carbohydrates, protein or fat. ...Read more

PUFA Toxicity: Most people in industrialized countries get too much polyunsaturated fat of the omega-6 kind: from either natural or partially hydrogenated corn, soy, cottonseed or safflower oils. Only 1% of dietary calories is required as polyunsaturates and most modern diets supply 10% or more. These fats oxidize themselves (the same process makes oil-based paint dry) and increase the need for anti-oxidants. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
