Carbs Healthy Cooking
Not necessarily: There is no single diet that is best for everyone. I believe it is wise to minimize sugars and simple starches, but i believe a diet with whole grains, vegetables, fruit and low-fat proteins is healthier than a strict low carb diet (which is relatively high in fat and protein). See http://drrandybaker.Com/2013/01/20/diet-and-health/ for my essay on the pros and cons of various diets. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is a 1500 calorie diet healthy and sustainable if vegetables, fruit, lean protein and in processed carbohydrates are consumed?
Weight and Activity: Yes that diet can certainly be sustained if it provides for the caloric expenditure of the individual on a daily basis. The mix of foods you choose is also very good. By "processed" i assume you mean complex carbohydrates. If you happen to be 350lbs and 6ft 4in then you are going to be rather hungry for quite some time. ...Read more
Yes, yes &: Not nearly as healthy as you would think. There are other grains that are healthier, like rye for example , and others that are a lot better than whole wheat. If your choices were whole wheat or white i'd pick the whole wheat, but just about only then. ...Read more
STRANGE QUESTION: There are other possibilities. How about fat eating less and skinny eating well? If self control and self image are problems, consider a therapist. If this is the top of the iceberg in a problem filled life, consider a therapist and get help in taking control and sorting them out. ...Read more
I would say it is: unhealthy due to the amount of salt/brine that is used as well as any spice/preservatives for packaging purposes. You would have to convince me very well to eat canned tuna instead of fresh tuna, though I understand they are used for different purposes in cooking. Any extra salt is detrimental to our blood vessels and promotes hypertension, stroke, and heart attacks. ...Read more
REALLY UNHEALTHY!!!: This is recipe for disaster. Potatoes are in the environmental working group's dirty dozen foods-they're high in pesticides if not organic & are readily converted to sugar so raise blood sugar, causing weight gain & increased risk of diabetes. Generic "vegetable oil" is almost certainly corn, soy or canola which are all gmo if not organic & very toxic, fried potatoes have carcinogenic acrylamides. ...Read more

Is gluten free pasta ( maize starch, soy flour, potato starch and rice starch)with about 40 gm carbohydrates good for cholesterol ?
Does not matter: Since 90% of the cholesterol is produced by the body regardless of your diet, the above would not noticeably affect your cholesterol level. Do note that too much carb may not be good for your health. I don't believe extreme diet does anyone any good. Just eat anything in moderation and exercise at least 3 hrs a week will likely keep you in better shape. ...Read more
Yes: Because with whole fruits and veggies, you get the fiber which results in less consumption and quicker satiety (fullness). Smoothies have more sugar from the fruits and veggies due to more being used to make the smoothie. Plus, most smoothies have added ingredients like sugars, syrups, powders, etc - unless you make it yourself. ...Read more
For the most part: If you fry foods at too low a temperature or put too much food in the pan it will lengthen the time it takes to cook and will cause the food to absorb more fat from the oils. Some oils are less healthy than others. Studies support the notion that fried foods increase the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. To lose weight diet rich in veggies, sprouts,beans,legumes,fruits,1 handful nuts, cottage cheese, whey protein & limited amount of whole grains is good?
Probably not: There is a huge promotion for "organic" foods that are produced without fertilizers or insecticides and therefore cost much more. Despite the emotionally-based and politically-correct rhetoric, nobody has been able to convince most of the scientific community of the physical (in contrast to emotional) benefits, especially since organic-eaters tend to have healthy lifestyles generally. ...Read more
