Milligrams for 6 hour sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa)? What is the dosage for this medication?

Dosages : Dosages are adjusted for the specific needs of each patient — there is no standard dose for any specific time period. Sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa) comes in carbadopa-levodopa doses of 10-100, 25-250, and 25-100. How does the drug carbidopa work?

How does the drug carbidopa work?

Blocks breakdown: Carbidopa acts to block the enzyme aromatic-l-amino-acid decarboxylase which converts l-dopa to dopamine. Since it cannot get into the brain it works in the rest of the body (periphery). When given in combination with l-dopa in parkinson's disease, it inhibits the conversion of l-dopa to Dopamine in the body so that more is available to be converted in the brain where it is needed. ...Read more

What is the difference between Parkinson's drug sinemet and stalevo (carbidopa and levodopa and entacapone)?

COMT inhibitor: Entacaptone is a selective catecholamine-o methyl transferase (comt) inhibitor that increases the bioavailabilty of dopamine. Like Carbidopa in sinemet it does not cross the blood brain barrier. Stalevo (carbidopa and levodopa and entacapone) is a combination of l dopa, Carbidopa and entacaptone. My mom, Safia, 60 years old, resident of Pakistan has drug induced parkinsonism, which is bothering a lot & worsening. Sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa) 25/250 every 4.5 hours?

My mom, Safia, 60 years old, resident of Pakistan has drug induced parkinsonism, which is bothering a lot & worsening. Sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa) 25/250 every 4.5 hours?

Tachyphylaxis.: Dosing of Sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa) is a little strange, requiring front loading in the day and a long gap at night without dosing. If taken like most other medications, on a more regular dosing interval, tachyphylaxis develops, which essentially means the efficacy of the medication reduces. ...Read more

Is it safe to take clonazepam for sleep with sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa) for Parkinsons patient? Are there any drug interactions?

Is it safe to take clonazepam for sleep with sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa) for Parkinsons patient? Are there any drug interactions?

Probably safe...: Probably safe but not especially the best choice! Although medications in that class (benzodiazepines) allay anxiety and can relax muscle spasm, they also interfere with normal sleep architecture and increase the risk of falling. I would certainly advise that you discuss this with your neurologist or a psychiatrist trained in sleep disorders or with additional training in geropsychiatry. ...Read more

What are dangers for using carbidopa at the age of 50?

What are dangers for using carbidopa at the age of 50?

Not dangerous per se: I presume you mean using sinemet, (carbidopa and levodopa) which is a combination of Carbidopa and levodopa, for parkinson disease. There are no inherent dangers with using this medicine. If, however, the patient is on high doses, the patient will likely develop dyskinesias which are "excess" movements of the patient. Most patients prefer dyskinesias to being frozen, but sometimes the movements can be extreme. ...Read more

Does anyone know what side effectcs are if I suddenly stop taking carbidopa?

Does anyone know what side effectcs are if I suddenly stop taking carbidopa?

Usually none: I presume that you are on carbidopa/levodopa (sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa)), probably for parkinson disease or possibly for restless legs. If your dose is not high, you can just stop it. There is a theoretical risk of a bad neurological symptoms if stopping a high dose quickly.

If you are taking just Carbidopa, which is sometimes given in pd to help with sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa) nausea, it can be stopped quickly. ...Read more

I take carbidopa/levidopa & recently, I was given the ODT form by mistake. Is it possible that they don't work as well for me, or is it in my head?

Possible? Yes, maybe: Is it possible they don't work as well for you? Yes. People vary. Typically, they will work as well for the average patient. In some cases they can work better. But, you are certainly entitled to your biology. Talk to your doctor and go back to the other formulation if that feels right for you. ...Read more

Variable, but: In my experience, the maximum Sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa) dosing is the 25/250 tab four times daily, and if this seems to wear off, one can add Comtan (entacapone). Problem with going too high with L-DOPA is incidence of dyskinesias. ...Read more

Which is more potent sinemet (carbidopa and levodopa) or the generic of carbidopa/levodopa?

Neither: Generic drugs are held to standards where the manufacturer must prove "bioequivalence" to the branded drug. It can be thought of as the difference between clorox bleach and safeway brand bleach. ...Read more
