Depends: Calorie shifting has many meanings but if you are asking about eating more during the day and less at night, its helpful but not as much as it is to eat what your resting metabolism rate is (and a little extra if exercising). It is best to consume more midday and less at night but most people are just overeating all day long! know your rate and then shift the calories. ...Read more

Sure, but...: Those no carb diets all work by the same mechanism every diet on earth works by: less calories in. The key is that if you eat enough calories to gain weight but do it from fats and protein alone, it'll make you sick, so most people end up eating substantially less. Try it and see (myfitnesspal is a great app for this). Every 3500 cal missed (or so), another pound will fall off. ...Read more
Long-term changes: The best plan is not a temporary diet but long-term changes. Sugars & simple carbs from grains esp cause weight gain. I like dr. Furhman's diet:http://www.Drfuhrman.Com/library/what-is-a-nutritarian-diet.Aspx dr. Weil has useful info: www.Huffingtonpost.Com/andrew-weil-md/carbohydrates-weight-loss_b_1937312.Html- see his "discuss that" link in his article. Exercise is also important. Good luck! ...Read more
See Dr., and then...: Helpful weight loss diets have natural foods that take time to chew but contain few calories. Examples include carrots, celery, and leafy lettuce (little or no salad dressing). When shopping for fruits, buy small ones no bigger than a tennis ball, because fruits have sugar. Drinks without calories include water and green tea. A calorie is a calorie, but surely avoid sugar & simple starch calories. ...Read more
Low carbs is theBEST: Low carbs is the beeest! basically, your choices for each meal includes protein, fat, carbs, and veggies. It is always best to focus on protein and veggies. Avoid fats (fried foods, grease, etc. Avoid sugars and white carbs (white rice, bread, white pasta). Some brown carbs are ok since they seem to lead to a slower rise in sugar levels (keeps hunger from surging). Sooo, low carbs is the beeest! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Calories burned must exceed calories in. ...Read more
Reduce weight: This is a repeat of what I have said before. My philosophy is that the best way to lose weight is not by dieting, but by changing your lifestyle to a healthier one. You don't need a drastic diet. Make small changes. Eat the right portions, eat 3-5 small meals a day, cut back on carbs and sugars, increase lean protein/veggie/fruit/water intake, and start doing some cardiovascular exercise. ...Read more

I am looking for help. I am naturally skinny but wanted to put on weight. Whats an eexample diet plan i could use. I really don't understand carbs etc.
Skinny is good: If you are otherwise healthy, being skinny is not an illness and do not try to put on weight. Soon enough you will start gaining weight and miss this time when you could eat what you wanted and not gain weight. Eat a mixed diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, low fat milk products; low in saturated fates, no tobaco and no more than one drink a day, exercise 30 minutes a day. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

You need energy: to fuel your activities when you are awake. The Medifast program can work but it is a very low amount of calories and you need to eat all of them. Take in about 200 calories every two hours while you are awake, whether it is at night or during day. It will be OK to go without food when you are sleeping. Hope this helps...Good wishes:) ...Read more

Depends, Prob. Not: If your goal is to build body fat, then yes, otherwise no. Carbs block burning fat, so which are "good". Are triglycerides of 224 a major concern? Have been dieting, lost 30 lbs, am on low carb diet. What should I change?
No, however...: Congratulations on your diet and weight loss! That mild elevation of triglycerides is still a sign of excess weight, too many carbs, insulin resistance and/or is genetic, but isn't particularly hazardous in and of itself. Keep doing what you're doing and it will continue to lower. To reduce further exercise, take chromium picolinate or polynicotinate 200 mcg/day and esp. pantethine 600-900 mg/day. ...Read more
