Carafate vs axid?

Personal decision

Duodenal_ulcer
Carafate is brand of sucralfate which works by coating stomach lining. It is FDA approved only for duodenal ulcers. Axid is brand of H2 receptor blocker, all of which are now available OTC. In addition to treating duodenal ulcers, Axid is also approved for GERD (heartburn) & gastric ulcers, too. Choice depends upon what you need to treat as well as cost (insurance), dosing regimen & side effects

Can i take carafate with caffeine?

Not a good idea

Caffeine
carafate is to protect you stomach by forming a protective coating in your stomach lining. Caffeine irritant to your stomach. It will make your gastritis worse. That is why all ulcer or reflux or gastritis patient are put on caffeine free diet. If you take carafate with caffeine, it will make your healing process very slow or getting worse.

Can carafate be used to relieve heartburn?

GI

Heartburn
Yes. Carafate is one of the medications used to treat "heartburn". Mylanta, Maalox, Tums and Pepcid are some of the others you may have heard of. They all relieve symptoms to varying degrees. If one doesn't work you can try another.

Help please! Could carafate help a hiatal hernia?

Not really

Hiatal_hernia
A sliding type hiatal hernia is associated with reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. The acid causes burning sensation described as "heartburn", sometimes an intense pressure sensation like angina. Carafate coats the stomach lining to help shield the mucosa from acid. Itwould not effectively protect the esophagus. You need a proton pump inhibitor or H2 blocker to reduce acid.

Does anyone know if carafate can be used for pain?

Carafate

Acetaminophen
This medication is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the intestines. Carafate forms a coating over ulcers, protecting the area from further injury. This helps ulcers heal more quickly. There are off label uses of Carafate but talk to your doctor about those.

Is the medication Carafate used for the treatment of pain?

Carafate

Ulcers
This is used to treat ulcers. It sticks to the ulcer thereby protecting it from the stomach acid and enzymes allowing healing. One could argue that it may have a role in decreasing the pain as it covers/coats the ulcer protecting it. Carafate is not classed as a pain medication.

Dr. Bac X. Nguyen answered:

What is the drug carafate, and what is it used for? Thank you.

Sucralfate 4 ulcer

Duodenal_ulcer
It is a medication used to treat stomach/duodenal ulcers, to prevent it, or to treat those with severe oral ulceration (epidermolysis bullosa). It is a relatively safe medication, but not as effect as other medication such as the famous purple pill. Some people do benefit from it and so still in use. Have fun learning. Good luck
