If you forget to delay a small breakfast after taking Carafate (sucralfate) (e.G. Only waiting a half hour), do you get any benefit (or harm) from having taken it?
Yes, but a bit less: It is recommended that Carafate (sucralfate) be takenon an empty stoomach 1 hour before meal or two-three hours after. I have gastritis, that's it. Nothing else wrong with me. Aciphex (rabeprazole) relieves reflux well but gastrtitis never heals. Even with carafate/others. Suggest?
Carafate (sucralfate) time: Excellent question! No really: Carafate (sucralfate) is good at helping ulcers heal. If you have ulceration in your esophagus from acid reflux, then it might help. If you just have inflammation (aka "reflux esophagitis") then carafate (sucralfate) is generally a waste of time and money. It's really difficult to take (4 times per day) so I only advise my patients in whom I suspect ulcers to take carafate (sucralfate). ...Read more

Can carafate and DGL help treat antral erosion gastritis? I take prilosec too, but got antral erosions while taking it oddly.
Gastritis: Both those agents may be helpful in the treatment of antral gastritis, but I regard ppi's the most effective. These include prilosec, nexium, protonix. I feel that one prilosec a day isn't sufficient to heal many cases of gastritis or peptic ulcer. A gastroenterologist can advise you best. ...Read more
How likely is aluminum poisoning from carafate (sucralfate)? I use prescription strength anti-persperent that contains aluminum also.
Not likely but ?: Sucrafate and Anti-perspirants both contain aluminum which is absorbed and stored in bodily tissues. Chronic may cause toxicity, most particularly for patients with chronic renal disease or who are on dialysis. I would advise switching to an anti-perspirant that doesn't contain aluminum such as Arm and Hammer. Ask your physician if there is an alternative to Sucrafate for your condition. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
