Will an amino acid formula interfere with synthroid (thyroxine). For example GNC amino acid formula?
Prescribed 1 mg folic acid, take multi-vitamin with 400mg folic acid, plus eat cereal (400mcg folic acid). Is this too much? Why psychiatrist presc?
Co factor: Folic acid, particular some forms which cross the blood-brain barrier, have been show to enhance the effect of antidepressants. It isn't typically toxic because it is water-soluble so you pass out any extra. Deplin is a prescribed form of this, a version of folic acid which gets across the blood-brain barrier. ...Read more
Can u take folic acid tablets and multi vitamins tablet containing folic acid each day? Is that over dosing?
Depends: Dose depends on the condition being treated (anemia, sprue, pregnancy). For a good review of some that are independently tested, check https://www.Consumerlab.Com/reviews/alpha-lipoic_acid_supplements/alphalipoic/ you may need to subscribe, but $33/year is worth it since you get reviews of many products, not just this one. Possibly fish oil: Fats including fish oil can sometimes aggravate reflux; this is less likely if taken with food. But certain supplements are proven beneficial for reflux, esp. melatonin. Safe but not best Mg: It is totally safe but magnesium oxide is a very poorly-absorbed form of magnesium- it may work as a laxative but won't raise your magnesium levels! you would be far better off taking magnesium glycinate, taurate or citrate! see http://drcarolyndean.Com/magnesium_miracle/. ...Read more

How long should it take for an adult to be weened off valrpoic acid at a low dosage of 500mg daily?
Is it ok to use the 5mg folic acid dosage instead of the normal suggest 4mg dosage when trying for a baby?
You can: there is no known toxicity with folic acid, although it is unlikely that more is going to help. The normal daily requirement for folate is less than 1 mg, and 4 mg is probably overkill as well. Prenatal vitamins generally contain 0.8 to 1 mg (800 to 1000 micrograms), so 4 mg is NOT a normal dosage. It can't hurt but will be unlikely to help more than the usual 1 mg amount. ...Read more
What is the recommended dosage of magnesium both - as amino acid chelate and as oxide heavy?, Am deficient in magnesium
Magnesium deficiency: Most Americans are low in magnesium. It can vary from one person to another up to 8 fold how much magnesium a person needs. I recommend following label directions and increasing by one dose per night until 8 doses or loose stool. If you get to loose stool, consider that one dose too many. Most people only need 2 or 3 doses per day, and it could be taken all at bedtime. ...Read more

Anyone have any positive thoughts about regularly taking alpha lipoic acid supplements? If so, what dosage?
yes: I think Alpha lipoic acid is an excellent supplement if you are taking a high quality product. Some products have a lot of added ingredients and fillers which make them undigestable and possibly toxic. Ala helps with Insulin metabolism, and liver detoxification. Its a good antioxidant as well, which helps your overall health. The dosage varies depending on your condition. ...Read more
Valproic acid at low doses causing greater mental adverse side effects, and greater physical side effects at higher dosages?
Dose related: Both mental and physical side effects with valproic acid are usually dose related (higher the higher the dose). However, you might notice that the effectiveness (reduction in mental symptoms) is also dose related. What you are thinking of as adverse mental side effects might be untreated psychiatric symptoms. Part of what makes psychiatry interesting! :-). ...Read more

I have been on acid reflux ppi for over 10 yrs...will i ever be able to stop or reduce dosage? Hiatal hernia.
Maybe: Try to wean yourself off the meds, and see what happens. If its still intolerable, you may want to look in to a Stretta procedure or surgical fundoplication to actually mechanically repair the valve and "cure" the disease. It is important to note however that not all patients are candidates, and a normal amount of reflux still occurs, and you may still occasionally need meds. Hope this helps! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
When is the best time to take l-arginine amino acid for the veins to show? *i workout very hard* and what is the recommended daily dosage? Is it safe?
When you wish: Congratulations on taking up strength training. Arginine is safe, it may help you build some muscle by stimulating growth hormone, and may indeed accent your being vascular though keeping lean and high blood volume by doing a lot of cardio and watching fats and carbs in your food will help more. See whether you look more vascular shortly after taking arginine, and if so, take it before show times. ...Read more
