Forget natural: Bottom line is that so called "natural" or non regulated, non-pharmacological products are not going to work for you. You need a formal sleep study to see why you can't sleep. I know we have lost faith in our health care system because it is all about mak.ing insurance companies rich, but the science goes on and science does have a solution for your problem. Many causes: There are many causes of insomnia. You need to see a doctor for a routine exam and blood tests to make sure there is nothing going on like hyperthyroidism that could be the cause. Here are some things to try in the meantime: if you smoke do not smoke 3 hours before going to bed, don't drink any alcohol (it disrupts sleep cycle), no caffeine 12 hours before bed, no electronics 3 hours before bed. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I struggle to fall asleep but I can't sleep til after 4am. I'm exhausted during the day, but wide awake at night. I've tried everything to sleep. Help?
See your doctor: Sounds like you're putting in the hours, but still feeling tired. This could mean the quality of sleep isn't good. I'd avoid alcohol before bed, as well as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and those pm cold meds (they can put you to sleep, but it isn't great sleep). If you snore a lot, ask your doctor about sleep apnea. Your family doctor should feel comfortable evaluating you further. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Although : Although i can't diagnose the source of your symptoms, they are concerning. You have either had no sleep or markedly diminished sleep over approximately six days. You have so much energy that you are pacing and feel like you drank a pot of coffee. It is severe enough that you can't function and fear you are going crazy. This can be related to use of some types of drugs. But it sounds from your question as if this is not the issue. Some medical conditions like hyperthyroidism can have some similar symptoms. You might be experiencing hypomania or mania. These are both conditions in which the brain and body go into hyperdrive. Because there is no way to tell from this interchange, if it is a metabolic problem or the extent of your increased energy, i recommend that you be seen at the emergency room to be evaluated for possible mania. Take care. ...Read more

Not enough sleep: Everyone needs a different amount of sleep, some people need only 6 hours, most people need 7-8 hours, some even need 9 hours/night. If you're trying to sleep less hours than your body needs, the lack of sleep will catch up with you eventually. Your body is telling you that 7 hours is not enough sleep for you. You may get by with less sleep temporarily, but not long term. ...Read more
