See Neurologist: You need to pursue this further with a neurologist ( brain and nerve specialist ). You may well need an MRI of your brain and spinal cord if not already done. A migraine could do what is happening to you but at your age it would be wise to pursue further. If you can't feel your leg go back to the emergency room. Ask questions of the doctors. Can be many things: Without a significant trauma, there are several other things to consider. A meniscus tear can cause this type of pain, a stress fracture can make weight bearing painful, gout can cause severe pain and swelling, warmth and difficulty bending and an infection can do the same along with fever, chills and lethargy. You may have a: Pinched nerves in your LUMBAR SPINE. Because this may involve MOTOR nerves "leg giving away" this evaluation should be ASAP! Need to be checked: You are 45 and never consulted a doctor to find out what was and is the cause of your limp.You need to be evaluated by an orthopedic specialist ti find out your limping and not able to lift left leg.You need a thorough history as to when your symptoms started ie from birth or after an illness or injury, and thourough exam including neuro exam and imaging like xrays, MRI or cat scan to find the cause. ...Read more

I'm not sure what: the question is. The starting point would be bed rest for a couple of days then physical therapy. If EMG confirms muscle loss in the leg you should consider surgery. I would start the therapy before surgery however to improve your chance of a good outcome. ...Read more
