Is it ok to put aspirin directly on canker sore in throat (carefully using Qtip)? Salt water rinse not helping. Doctor confirmed canker sore.

NO!: Aspirin made to be taken orally with copious water, not applied topically. Put directly on tissue will actually burn the area, retard healing, cause sloughing, and may leave a scar. ASPIRIN IS NOT TO BE USED TOPICALLY. Canker sore will heal on its own in 7-10 days. You can dab on, w Q-tip, Orabase-B (an OTC). May be viral: If there is a single sore and you have no other symptoms (no headache, no stomach ache, no fever), the sore throat may well be a virus. Treatment for that is supportive. If you develop any of the above symptoms in addition, however, and do not have symptoms such as stuffy nose or cough, see your doctor to make sure you do not have strep. ...Read more
